It’s an exciting period of change at NFU Mutual. To ensure these changes improve experiences for our people, customers, and business, one of the first key areas of change is the Change division itself. We’re reshaping how we manage change, introducing an enterprise-led approach and restructuring the division to provide the strategic leadership that will support the whole business through major transformation. It’s about setting the strategic business agenda, establishing how we approach change in the future, and supporting senior stakeholders across NFU Mutual through fundamental changes. You can play a key role.
About the role
You’ll be a prominent member of the NFUM Group Change leadership team, helping to implement strategy through vital change initiatives across our business. As the face of the Change division to senior NFU Mutual stakeholders, you’ll develop effective business partnerships, ensuring business outcomes are well understood and delivered when promised. As the leader of the Portfolio Management function, you’ll develop a team that, using data-driven insights, is able to identify future challenges within the Portfolio, ensuring they’re identified and resolved early. At the same time, you’ll develop solid foundations for a risk-based, value-driven approach to delivering the enterprise change programme, ensuring consistency in terms of governance, controls, assurance, and reporting. You’ll work closely with the Strategy team to agree and oversee delivery of a pipeline of new change initiatives that ensure we execute NFU Mutual’s strategy.
Our genuinely supportive, collaborative culture gives you the opportunity to make your mark quickly, with plenty of scope to develop your career still further. This includes a healthy work-life balance that works for you, with great facilities when you want to be in an office environment, and support to work up to 60% of your hours from home.
About you
You’re at your best when developing and embedding a new team and new practices. With a strong Portfolio Management and PMO background, coupled with significant experience in change management and portfolio delivery models, you’ll have a track record of developing and embedding Enterprise Portfolio Management solutions. As well as your technical expertise, you’ll be an outstanding people and strategic leader, constantly tracking developments in Portfolio Management practices, and iterating to meet future demands of the organisation.
At NFU Mutual, you’ll find a culture that encourages collaboration and mutual respect, so you’ll be a calm presence, used to instilling confidence, developing effective working relationships, and influencing senior stakeholders. You’ll have the ability to cut through complex information, create new opportunities, and optimise value by communicating strategic intention and business outcomes effectively. You’ll also use your strong critical problem-solving skills to continually assess our business needs and systems capability, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and change happens effectively.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
1. Management of Portfolios and Managing Successful Programmes qualifications
2. Experience of running a PMO function using Agile methodologies
3. Excellent stakeholder management skills up to and including Executive and Board
4. Experience of leading, motivating, managing, and developing a cross-functional team including external suppliers and/or partners
5. Experience of budgetary process, expenditure tracking, and reporting in excess of £100m per annum
At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique. We celebrate the creativity and innovation that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences and share a common vision of doing the right thing for our customers and employees.

Working at NFU Mutual
We’re one of the UK’s leading general insurance and financial services companies. For over 110 years we’ve put our customers at the heart of everything we do. Our people are just as important to us. We pride ourselves on being “a great place to work” and we're one of only 60 companies across the globe to receive a Gallup Exceptional Workplace 2024 award, and one of only 2 companies to receive the award for the ninth consecutive year. We were also named in the LinkedIn Top 25 Companies List 2021, the Glassdoor Best Places to Work UK List 2023 and 2024, and were recognised as a certified UK Top Employer by the Top Employers Institute in 2023 and 2024.
We offer a supportive culture where we empower and inspire our people to perform, offer them opportunities to grow, and recognise and reward their contribution. Our people are proud to work for a company that respects them and their communities, and they trust us to be financially sustainable, so we are successful now and in the future.
We are a leading provider of General Insurance and Financial Services. From our strong farming roots, we’ve grown to become a UK-wide organisation, turning over £1 billion annually. Yet success hasn’t gone to our heads. We’re proud to remain completely customer-focused, down-to-earth, and committed to the rural communities we’ve grown from.
Our ethos - of trust, respect, and personal service - lies at the heart of all we do and has seen us build an enviable reputation for exceptional member loyalty. Though we’ve been in business for over 110 years, we have big ambitions for the future. And that’s why we’re looking for talented people to join our growing organisation. Talented people like you.
