In this newly created role, we‘re seeking a customer and commercially focused enterprise technology leader with proven experience of building and delivering a highly effective Workplace Technology strategy. Our workplace technology includes all of our employee systems and support, and plays a significant role in how our people experience technology at UW.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring the following experience, skills and attributes:
3. A strong technical background, with direct experience implementing, integrating and planning people facing systems similar to ours: this includes our HRIS, identity and access management systems (we use Okta), service platforms (we use ServiceNow), workplace communication and office platforms (we use Slack and GSuite) and the variety of other systems that make up the people systems experience;
4. Experience of working at a senior level on the technology, operational and financial areas of a business. You’re able to provide input and influence, drive change, build business cases for investment, and connect our workplace technology strategy to our overall business strategy;
5. Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing workplace technology and service management teams, having worked in organisations of a similar size or scale with a track record of changing, building and developing high-performing teams;
6. Strong technical expertise in service delivery technology, hardware, software, networking, collaboration tools, and mobility solutions;
7. Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to adapt to change and prioritise competing demands and are comfortable with the ambiguity inherent in senior roles;
8. Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to workplace technology, security, and compliance;
9. Demonstrated ability to develop and operationalise strategic plans, manage budgets, and drive results;
10. An ability to work with and across multiple functions in our organisation, making sure multiple teams work in a connected way; You can establish common goals that are effectively met across multiple teams in and outside of your direct control;
11. A strong customer service mindset, understanding the end user experience and helping your team to put the customer at the heart of their solutions;
12. Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

Our Technology team is a central function that enables our teams across UW to do what they do best. Reporting into the CTO, you’ll lead a sizable team of professionals and work closely with key senior stakeholders across all functions to align workplace technology initiatives with business objectives.
Your team and systems will serve a business of over 2,500 employees across the UK and a small group of remote workers distributed globally.

Our ambition is to achieve double digit customer growth so we need an internal systems architecture that will help us scale effortlessly. As Head of Workplace Technology, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the design, strategy, implementation, maintenance and support of internal technology systems will enhance productivity, collaboration, and overall employee experience across UW. You’ll also take pride in shaping the team responsible for delivering across this remit.
Here are some examples of the key pieces of work we’re anticipating you will get stuck into:
16. Working with our Chief People, Operations, Technology, Security and Financial executives to create a long term strategy and roadmap for our HRIS and all the systems that depend on it - from our financial systems to payroll and identity management systems, learning and development systems and communication platforms;
17. Build a strong understanding of how our systems work together and are integrated, and where we can improve these integrations for a secure, coherently integrated and low friction user experience.
18. Continue the work done so far with our end user experience, continually improving our people’s day to day experience of workplace technology across their life at UW - from onboarding, to resolving problems when they happen to supporting ongoing change in the organisation.
19. Take the lead in vendor engagement and negotiation for a number of high value technology platform contracts and supplier relationships, helping us effectively manage our operating costs, and selecting the right partners to work with over the long term.
