Here at Warwick District Council, we pride ourselves on the fact that we offer you a great place to work. We achieve our goals by recruiting and retaining motivated, empowered and flexible staff. We are committed to training and development, and we encourage a healthy work-life balance.
Warwick District Council is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced senior policy planner to join our team! This position offers an ideal career opportunity to continue to gain valuable experience of both urban and rural policy planning. We are looking to recruit a senior policy planner with strong experience in planning policy and relevant experience and skills to lead on some key policy areas.
The advertised post sits within the Planning Policy and Site Delivery team of the Council, responsible for matters relating to planning policy, delivery of major development sites, and the Community Infrastructure Levy. The team is currently working on the new South Warwickshire Local Plan, being prepared jointly with Stratford-on-Avon District Council. It is therefore a fantastic opportunity for you to be involved in setting the strategy for growth and developing the policies that will serve the area for the next 20+ years.
This role will also give you opportunities to support our communities with the preparation of their Neighbourhood Plans, provide expert policy advice to colleagues in Development Management, as well as other planning policy work. Working within the policy team, you will play an important role in the preparation of the Local Plan and other policy documents, including research, policy formulation, and participation in consultation events and independent examinations.
The successful candidate must be well organised and self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure. You will need to be enthusiastic with strong interpersonal skills. Being a team player is essential, although you will also need to have initiative and be able to take the lead on specific pieces of work. Good communication skills are essential given that the role involves interaction with colleagues, partners, members of the public, and other stakeholders.
The position will comprise a hybrid style of working, as a mix of both home and office-based working, to suit the work/life balance of the successful applicant. The Council office is close to Warwick town centre and the railway station.
