Bowson Industries Limited are looking for a Glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) process apprentice to complete an advanced (level 3) composites technician apprenticeship and join their team.
Role and responsibilities:
* To make GRP products (mainly slides for playground equipment) from start to finish
* Mould preparation, new/refurbish/minor prep
* Gel processing (brushing and spraying) - tint colour mixing
* Drilling, trimming and sanding using electric/battery/air operated hand tools
* Applying chemical-based coatings
* Polishing, assembling and packing
* Operation of various hand tools and cutting machines
* Interpret drawings to acquire correct sizes, cut-out requirements and orientations of products
* Follow work plans exactly
* Constantly look to improve quality of products.
Skills required:
* Attention to detail and identifying defects
* Ability to clean, organise and keep tidy work spaces
* Correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including face masks, safety glasses, gloves, safety boots
* Physically able to maintain manual handling procedures (training will be given)
* Good attitude to health and safety processes.

* Positive and enthusiastic.
Things to consider:
During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full-time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training, you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.
Qualification Requirements:
Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements
You will need both of the following:
* GCSE English language C or 4 or above
* GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.
Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
