An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapy progression post within the Community Response and Rehabilitation Team. The aim would be for the Band 5 to progress to a Band 6 within 12 months of completing the competency of the post.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join a well-established Multidisciplinary Team who provide a service to clients living in the community within Newcastle upon Tyne.
The OT will work within client's own homes with a very varied client group, the majority of whom are older people. The OT will be required to provide a comprehensive service with a primary focus on home-based assessment, intervention, rehabilitation, risk management, carer advice & support, moving and handling, health promotion/illness prevention for people referred to the team. The main aim is to maintain people in their own home with the maximum possible quality of life and prevent hospital admissions.
You will require a Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy. HCPC Registration. Evidence of a range of OT practice in varying clinical settings, one of which would preferably be community-based working with older people.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
* Be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality Occupational Therapy Assessments and Interventions.
* Be offered a wide range of training opportunities including: preceptorship, functional assessments and moving and handling training.
* Have access to regular clinical supervision sessions to support your practice.
* Have experience in using electronic records and be able to work independently.
Job responsibilities
You must be able to work independently and have effective time management and organisational skills. A car driver with a current British driving licence is essential.
Contract Clause
You will initially be appointed as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist. However, you will progress to a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist when you:
* Demonstrate competencies in the management of complex patients by presenting case study(ies).
* Demonstrate the ability to work as a valued member of the MDT by presenting appropriate witness statements.
* Demonstrate the ability to manage difficult conversations using live supervision.
* Demonstrate safe lone working by showing an understanding of use of lone worker devices and ability to use lone work policy and procedures.
It is expected that this will be completed after a minimum of twelve months. Progression will not occur until all requirements have been confirmed to Human Resources by your line manager.
Band 5 Responsibilities
* To work as an Occupational Therapist within the Community Response and Rehabilitation Team.
* To respond to referrals within an appropriate time scale with the key aim being to prevent hospital admission and maintain the individual at home.
* To manage a caseload of cases as part of a team and ensure active links with interfacing agencies and delegate work to support staff where applicable.
* To be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team.
* To consolidate and build on graduate skills and academic knowledge, giving the Occupational Therapist a broad practical experience of a range of patients and conditions within the community setting.
* To maintain clinical records.
* To be responsible for own continued professional development.
