- THE ROLE -
The post of Technical Services Engineer (TSE) shares responsibility for developing, maintaining and implementing technical support services for teaching, research and other activities within the School of Computing, Engineering and Intelligent Systems (SCEIS). SCEIS hosts a wide range of specialist computer science and engineering laboratories, in support of both teaching and research. The post holder will lead particular technical services projects, which require strong technical knowledge & skills to enhance and enable the teaching, learning and research activities within the school. The TSE will demonstrate initiative and manage competing priorities over a number of projects, taking responsibility for and leading a technical support team to ensure work is completed in a professional manner. The role of TSE is very much a collaborative role, liaising with students, staff, research colleagues, and external service providers.
- ABOUT YOU -
- Educated to a degree level in a computing/engineering or related discipline or hold an equivalent professional qualification relevant to the post.
- Extensive experience of working in a computing / engineering environment which included the analysis, design, development, construction and modification of complex and sophisticated components/systems, as well as the operation, maintenance, testing, diagnosis, and repair of equipment/systems.
- Extensive experience of dealing with external suppliers and resource management for computing/engineering laboratories.
- Practical experience of the completion of COSHH and Risk Assessment procedures and management.
- Evidence of contributing to student learning and providing technical guidance, advice, and instruction in the use of specialist equipment and systems.
- Evidence of high-level skills in administrating Microsoft Windows Active Directory Server including PowerShell scripting, Microsoft Cloud Services and the design, installation and maintenance of complex networked systems and network infrastructure.
- Evidence of managing/administrating support for High Performance Computing clusters.
- Flexibility with regard to working hours and willingness to travel to meet the needs of the post where necessary.
