The Energy System Operator (ESO) are now looking for a Physical Security Operations Lead to join us This will be to support the Physical Security Operations Manager providing guidance, direction and advice regarding the installation, operation, and maintenance of National Energy System Operator (NESO) physical security assets. The post holder will be responsible for delivering security projects and solutions, including maintenance and fault management, to safeguard the organisations people and assets, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory and corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines across NESO’s portfolio. This role can be based from Wokingham or Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. About us As Great Britain’s electricity system operator (ESO), we sit at the heart of the electricity system, using our outstanding engineering and commercial expertise to balance electricity supply and demand. Ultimately, we keep the electricity flowing directly to where it’s needed, second by second. Becoming the National Energy System Operator In 2024, the ESO will transition to becoming the National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator will be the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system. The ESO, including all of its existing roles, will be at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them. The organisation will be set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As the ESO are today, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all. Key Accountabilities Support the Physical Security Operations Manager in developing and deploying security policy, ensuring an appropriate and proportionate approach to security management for NESO Adopt and implement National Protective Security Authority best practice and other appropriate best practise for security as determined by the NESO Security Committee Enable the smooth and timely exit of National Grid’s transitional service arrangements for security Manage projects, maintenance, and fault response/recovery for NESO physical security assets including management of the relevant supporting contracts and contractors Build and maintain effective working relationships, at all levels, both internally and externally Prepare physical security submissions to support business cases, outputs, and demonstration of value About You Operational experience of determining, developing, and delivering security projects for critical national infrastructure in line with NPSA guidance along with a good understanding of the technical audit relationships and requirements to successfully achieve appropriate and proportionate security outcomes Ability to convey the business benefits of a threat based, risk informed security approach ensuring business risk owners are empowered to make appropriate and proportionate security decisions You will possess detailed knowledge of design, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance for integrated physical security solutions. Good knowledge of the security discipline along with analytical thinking to develop, execute, sustain, and uphold security policies, standards, and guidelines Previous experience in critical national infrastructure or similar sector, involving the setting and delivering of projects and maintenance for integrated physical security solutions Ability to coordinate planning and implementation of security projects in complex environments Degree-level qualification or equivalent combination of education and experience with strong technical background in physical security and commissioning integrated systems Additional professional security qualifications/certifications in appropriate areas are desirable Awareness of Network Information Systems regulations, including knowledge of Objective E requirements and indicators of good practice What You'll Get A competitive salary between £50,000 – 60,000 – dependent on experience and capability.
