The Role
REPORTS TO: Head of Commercial Analysis
Windward Energy are looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Analyst to specialise in the financial valuation of the subsidiary Green GEN Cymru (GGC) electricity distribution network business. GGC was awarded an Independent Distribution Network Operator license in 2024, and the company is now working through the development of its first major grid line projects and the broader commercialisation strategy of the business.
The Senior Commercial Analyst will be responsible for developing the financial and commercial model for the GGC business. This will include developing the network cost calculation models, customer charging calculations and the financing strategy for the business. The role presents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic new business at the forefront of the energy transition, and the successful candidate will have significant responsibility in shaping the development of this young business.
The role requires a versatile and highly organised individual with a strong analytical background in financial modelling and valuation techniques, together with excellent attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have experience in the financial and commercial assessment of electricity network businesses, with a strong understanding of their business models.
The role will be based in Windward Energy's office in Edinburgh and will require occasional travel within the UK.
Main Responsibilities
* Conducting financial valuation analysis to develop the business case for the commercialisation, growth and financing of the GGC distribution network business.
* Development and maintenance of financial models for GGC - managing and updating project and market inputs to ensure valuations are kept fully up to date.
* Developing cost estimation models and customer charging modelling.
* Working closely with colleagues across the GGC and Windward businesses to advance the understanding and accuracy of valuation assessments.
* Conducting extensive scenario analysis to understand the range of potential commercial opportunities and risks affecting the business.
* Reporting timely and accurate valuation assessments to the management and shareholders of GGC.
* Researching market and regulatory issues together with technical topics to ensure that the company's knowledge base is kept up to date.
* Working towards delivering detailed financial appraisals for Final Investment Decision and Financial Close milestones of GGC project infrastructure.
* Producing written market research reports, briefing notes, and valuation appraisal documents to promote the development of the GGC business case.
* Assisting the Windward Energy Commercial Analysis team with other green energy development valuation work as required.

Knowledge & Skills
* Highly numerate with strong analytical skills.
* Strong understanding of financial valuation concepts and techniques and their practical application in financial modelling.
* Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel with the ability to undertake complex analysis and produce well-structured spreadsheet models.
* Well organized with excellent attention to detail, with the ability to self-audit and produce highly reliable analysis.
* The ability to present assessment outcomes in a thoughtful, clear, and concise manner to support the business's decision-making requirements.
* Knowledge of the GB power market, electricity networks and relevant regulatory matters, with the ability to research complex and evolving topics.
* Excellent MS Word and PowerPoint skills.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience & Qualifications
* Minimum 2:1 in a finance, economics, science, mathematics or engineering related undergraduate degree.
* A minimum of three years' experience in a financial valuation role - ideally within the energy sector - with a further two years of professional experience. Experience working with an electricity networks businesses would be a significant benefit.
* Ideally holding a professional chartership in financial analysis (CFA) or accountancy.
* A passion for renewable energy and sustainability issues.
