Whether you’re just starting out in project management or you’re an experienced Assistant Project Manager, this is your opportunity to make a tangible difference in our WINEP and flooding programs.
If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.
Within our Chief Engineering department, we are looking for Assistant Project Managers to join our Project Management team. With a large portfolio of ongoing project work, with key milestones and dates to achieve, there is plenty to be excited about.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
We are looking for Assistant Project Managers to join our Chief Engineering Project Management team based in our Raynesway, Derby office.
As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll support the Project Management team, taking a role in delivering your own projects by initially focusing on those that are less complex and lower risk. You’ll drive these projects forward whilst undertaking financial management and managing risk. As well as this, you’ll liaise with the project stakeholders/sponsors and be able to influence at both mid and senior leadership levels.
This role will give you variety and challenge, with plenty of scope for learning whilst being supported to grow and do more.
This is your chance to work on meaningful projects that deliver real results for our customers and communities. At Severn Trent, we foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where your ideas, skills, and experience are valued. Whether you’re an aspiring project manager or an experienced Assistant Project Manager, you’ll find opportunities to grow, lead, and make a difference.
As an Assistant Project Manager, some of your responsibilities will include:
* Supporting the delivery of programmes to identify the necessary asset investments for our WINEP and flooding initiatives.
* Stakeholder engagement, within Severn Trent, Design and Construction teams, the PMO team and in the Chief Engineer department, with Sewer Modelling and Water Quality Consultants.
* Where appropriate, managing and supporting weekly meetings with Asset and Flow survey Contractors and supporting Monthly and Bi-Weekly meetings with Sewer Modelling and Water Quality Consultants.
* Keeping track of progress to plan for all projects and deliverables, ensuring risks are understood, tracked and documented.
* Ensuring quality of deliverables from Contractors and Consultants, managing programme outputs with precision and accuracy.
* Ensuring all stakeholder responsibilities are clearly defined and opportunities for partnership working are explored.
Your contributions will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our projects. You will be part of a team who are responsible for achieving deliverables on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards. This includes working effectively, as part of a team, independently and supporting the Chief Engineering team to manage all aspects of programme delivery to meet objectives.
Working with Tactical Asset Planning colleagues, you will support the Project Managers to prepare and submit business cases for governance board approval and manage smooth handovers to the Capital Delivery team, including post-project reviews.
Your role also includes supporting the team to manage financial forecasts and budgets while identifying and mitigating risks and opportunities to ensure the successful delivery of programmes.
If this sounds like something you could do, read on!!
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
We’re looking for both new and experienced Assistant Project Managers, with a real drive to make a positive difference, ideally with a background in technical teams. Knowledge of Sewerage Management Planning, Drainage Area Planning, and wastewater network construction methods is desirable, along with expertise in flow survey scoping and management. However, this is not essential.
Collaboration is key, and you’ll excel at working with supply chains to deliver high-quality projects that meet industry standards and practices.
You’ll bring creativity, strong problem-solving skills, and a strategic mindset to prioritise and adapt to conflicting demands. Clear communication is key and familiarity with project management tools like MS Project is a bonus, helping you stay organised and effective.
A full UK driving license is essential.
The right skills and experience are important. However, if you have the right character, positivity, passion to do a great job and a caring attitude we want to talk to you, too.
We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities.
