You’ll have an impact on bringing digital-first banking to our customers by defining the future state architecture vision and strategies for our Global Businesses and Global Functions.
You’ll be developing business, data, software, and integration architecture standards to manage processes, systems, and technology complexity across the HSBC Group. Through dynamic, agile collaboration you’ll work closely with business partners to translate their requirements into integrated solutions that can be deployed globally using consistent service patterns for ease of deployment, support, and enhancement.

Enterprise Technology is the Technology organisation responsible for the design, build and ongoing maintenance of the systems owned by the Group Functions (Risk, Compliance, Finance, Core Banking, Corporate Functions and Deputy COO). The organisation consists of over 8,000 people working in collaboration across 14 countries, to support over 3,000 applications.
The Global Communications and Brand Tech (GCBT) at HSBC oversees an array of platforms, services, and applications that cater to our Enterprise Technology. Our portfolio encompasses the Sitecore Public Website platform and internal platforms such as Digital Workplace. The Senior Platform Specialist Engineer will play a critical role in architecting, deploying, and maintaining scalable and resilient cloud-native infrastructure solutions on cloud (Azure). This position requires deep technical expertise in infrastructure as code, modern DevOps practices, automation, and cloud-based service architectures. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally, ensuring that systems are secure, reliable, and optimized for performance while upholding HSBC’s best practices and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, architect, and maintain scalable cloud-native infrastructures, ensuring robust and high-performance systems to support business-critical applications.
• Proactively collaborate with third-party vendors (Microsoft, Beezy) and internal teams to resolve technical challenges and drive continuous improvement.
• Troubleshoot complex issues in cloud environments, ensuring minimal downtime and quick recovery through automated failover and resilience strategies.
• Develop and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices making use of Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, and YAML to automate provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring.
• Configure, deploy, and manage containers and serverless environments including Service Fabric, Docker, and Azure Web Apps, optimizing for performance and cost.
• Build and manage CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth deployments and efficient operational workflows, streamlining collaboration between development and operations teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive projects from conception to delivery, ensuring alignment with technical and business objectives.
• Ensure adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and best practices, particularly regarding data privacy and cybersecurity, with strict compliance to internal controls.
• Champion DevOps methodologies and advocate for infrastructure automation, integrating modern tools and platforms to ensure continuous improvement and streamlined processes.
• Drive compliance with all HSBC Cloud internal policies and engineering standards across cloud infrastructure, security and DevOps practices.
Essential Skills/Experience:
• Proficiency in infrastructure as code solutions (Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, YAML).
• Proven experience designing and managing Azure-based cloud infrastructure solutions.
• Previous experience using octopus deploy.
• Strong understanding of DevOps methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, and PowerShell scripting.
• Knowledge of security best practices for cloud infrastructure and application deployments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across various teams.
• Relevant certifications in Azure, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure technologies.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and strong problem-solving capabilities in high-pressure environments.
This role is based in Sheffield and offers hybrid working.
