Founded in 1978, Clark Contracts Ltd is a privately owned main contractor with several operating divisions; Construction, Fit Out, Small Works, Retail, Housing, Maintenance and Manufactured Joinery. We employ over 220 people with offices in the East and West of Scotland.
As part of our continued growth, we are now seeking a Technical Bid Writer to support our Construction, Housing and Retail divisions to deliver large-scale projects across the UK.
Role & Responsibilities
The Technical Bid Writer will be responsible for producing high-quality, persuasive technical content for bids and tenders within the construction industry. Working as part of the pre-construction team, the Bid Writer will collaborate with Contracts, Design, Commercial and Estimating teams to produce compelling proposals that clearly communicate the company's capability, methodology, and approach to project delivery. The role requires a deep understanding of construction processes, Construction Programmes, strong writing skills, and an ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise bid responses.
As a Technical Bid Writer, you will be responsible for:
1. Bid Strategy - Contribute to the development of bid strategies, ensuring that proposals reflect the company's competitive advantages, technical expertise, and innovative solutions. Analyse project briefs, client specifications, and tender documents to produce accurate and persuasive content. You will work closely with the Estimating department through the bid to:
o Review tender bills, prelims, projects brief etc. to identify both risk and opportunity.
o Review of subcontractor and supplier enquiries.
o Engagement with key trades - develop relationships with supply chain.
o Review and engagement of Design Team.
2. Programme Development: Create detailed project programmes from concept to construction, ensuring that all project milestones are achievable and align with client expectations.
3. Technical Content Creation: Write detailed technical bid responses, ensuring that all technical elements of the proposal align with client needs and project specifications. This includes but is not limited to:
o Construction methodologies.
o Bid programme.
o Project buildability.
o Logistical challenges.
o Specific technical questions.
o Risk register - in conjunction with bid team.
o Site visit reports.
o Tender interviews – provide applicable technical content.
o Alternative proposals including value engineering and optioneering.
4. Collaborative Bid Development: Work closely with supporting departments to gather and integrate technical input into submissions. e.g., Estimating, Commercial, Design, and Health and Safety to ensure buildability and commercial viability.
5. Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and provide mitigation strategies to reduce impact.
6. Value Engineering: Contribute to value engineering exercises, suggesting alternative methodologies or materials to achieve cost savings without compromising quality or timelines.
7. Relationship Management - Develop long-term client relationships through the bid process to assist and create future opportunities.
8. Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure that all bid documentation meets client specifications, industry standards, and company guidelines. Review and edit content for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with bid requirements.
