Job Title: Specialist Pharmacist, Surgery
Division/Department: Integrated Clinical Services/Pharmacy
Responsible to: Pharmacy Lead, Surgery
Accountable to: Chief Pharmacist
Based at: Northwick Park Hospital
Band: 8A

JOB SUMMARY:
1. Manage, provide and develop a safe and effective clinical pharmacy service to the Surgical Directorate wards and clinical areas, in accordance with Trust policies.
2. Responsible for evaluating prescribing patterns, drug usage, expenditure forecasting and provision of monthly expenditure reports to the Surgical Directorate.
3. Plan, organise and conduct audits within both the pharmacy department and the Surgical Directorate.
4. Maintain a high level of pharmaceutical input and support as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal and safe medicines usage.
5. Develop, advise on and implement procedures, guidelines and policies either local or national within area of responsibility as required.
6. Act as a trainee pharmacist tutor and be responsible for their training and appraisal.
7. Lead the training and development of the rotational band 6 and 7 pharmacists during their Surgery rotations.
8. Serve as a practice tutor and educational facilitator to pharmacists taking the JPB postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice.
9. Assist in the training, development and supervision of ward-based Pharmacy technicians and assistants.
10. Work as an independent prescriber or work towards gaining the relevant qualification, in accordance with a defined scope of practice agreed by the NMP Group.
11. Help with multidisciplinary training to nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals.
12. Participate in the provision of general pharmacy services such as dispensing for discharge, weekends, public holidays, late duty and on-call duties.
