This is a substantive post in paediatric in acute and general paediatrics with respiratory interest and is based in the Leicester Children's Hospital at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, a major teaching hospital closely allied with the University of Leicester. The appointment will be whole time. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues.
The main focus of the post will be the providing secondary level paediatric services to children in Leicester. The post holder will be part of the general paediatric team and will have input into paediatric asthma and general respiratory clinics.
Main duties of the job
To contribute to the provision of the Acute and General Paediatric service as well as secondary Paediatric Respiratory services, which includes:
1. Outpatient clinics
2. Participate in the consultant cover and service provision for the General Paediatric Service including the Consultant of the weekday time rota.
3. Participate in the consultant cover and service provision for the Paediatric Respiratory Medicine Service including Asthma care.
4. Participate in the General Paediatric Consultant on-call service. This includes 24-7 out-of-hours cover for the Children's Hospital.
5. Promote and strengthen links with colleagues in Primary Care, including GP's and AHP's.
6. Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
7. Share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients.
8. Work closely with the general paediatric team as well as relevant Heads of Service and General Managers.
9. Promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community.
10. Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences.
11. Supervise and train junior medical staff.
12. Be involved in appraising and assessing juniors.
13. Engage in teaching, research, and administration.
14. Proactively develop the service.

7. In line with GMC Good Medical Practice, it is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.
8. The post-holder is expected to respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers, which might include investigations of incidents or complaints.
9. The post-holder is expected to participate in teaching and training of junior staff and other clinical staff groups.
10. The post-holder will be expected to undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency Programmes appropriate to role.
11. The post-holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate.

* MB BS or Equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCP/MRCS or Equivalent
* Current APLS Certification

* Higher degree e.g., MSc, MD or equivalent.
