Role overview
We are looking for a dynamic, energetic, future thinking challenger who will run our Sustainability & Environmental team and be a key figurehead advising on, implementing strategies and winning work.
The Head of Sustainability & Environmental will be responsible for leading and implementing the organisations environmental and sustainability strategies. The role will focus on the development and maintenance of policies and initiatives that enhance environmental stewardship, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to drive sustainable practices across all aspects of the business with the help of their team of experts.
The Head of Sustainability & Environmental will be a key contributor to three main pillars:
Delighting clients by ensuring their experience is high quality, accessible and professional in regard to Sustainability and Environmental
Ensuring a happy team by leading and building a successful team and creating good relationships with all relevant parties within & external to the business and engaging with them in a positive manner
Meeting our financial objectives by ensuring that targets are met and exceeded where possible and contribute to winning new work and maintaining existing
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Leadership
• Accountable for driving direction and implementation of the Environmental and Sustainability strategy
• Lead a positive culture of environmental and sustainability awareness throughout the organisation
• Obtain buy in from management and Leadership to guarantee sustainability is a business priority.
• Position as market leaders in sustainability¸ environmental stewardship and social purpose.
• Ensure business objectives align with team objectives and strategy
• Provide leadership, direction and mentoring to the team
• Set up KPI’s (key performance indicators) and SLAs (service level agreements) for the team and external associated parties
Business Sustainability
• Ensure that sustainability and environmental considerations are integrated as part of each process within the Business System and are fully implemented.
• Report annually to the Leadership team on sustainable and environmental information to inform the company’s annual reporting
• Identify emerging trends in sustainability and environmental best practices and recommend innovative approaches to improve the organisations sustainability performance
• Drive the implementation of new technologies and systems that support sustainability goals
• Support and champion the energy management system certified under ISO 50001 Environmental Compliance and Risk Management
• Responsibility to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policies, including local, national and international standards
• Support and resource control measures to ensure identified environmental risks are mitigated or eliminated.
• Stay updated with changes in environmental legislation and standards and ensure the organisation is proactive in adapting to these changes
• Support and champion the environmental management system certified under ISO 14001 Resource
• Own, develop and manage a budget to ensure objectives are achieved and met.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Responsible for success implementation of sustainability training programme in the business, including developing and delivering training on topics of expertise
• Oversee all teams to ensure sustainability & environmental targets are met
• Establish relationships with key contractors ensuring they understand and align with our ESG (Environment Social Governance) strategy. Business Development
• Manage and organise team resources
• Meet potential clients when relevant, to communicate sustainability & environmental journey to assist others and make them aware of our services and views
• Provide expertise in approaching and meeting the sustainability, environmental and wellbeing targets of our potential clients
• Join a project team for pitches/presentations as and when relevant to secure new or continuing work
