Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) are looking to recruit one forward-thinking and motivated consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine with an interest in Sleep/NIV and/or other sub-specialisms to join our team of 5 Respiratory Medicine Consultants delivering our Respiratory services. The posts present an excellent opportunity for experienced clinicians with comprehensive understanding of respiratory medicine to join our dynamic team committed to the delivery of the highest standard of care.

The Trust is also working with Edge Hill University and supporting the new Medical school resulting in opportunities to be involved in undergraduate education. Study leave for CPD is supported and assistance with funding is provided up to an agreed limit.
Main duties of the job
Respiratory services at WWL include many sub-specialties of thoracic medicine, including Sleep Service, Asthma Service, COPD unit, Lung Cancer Services, Community Breathlessness Clinic, inpatient services and outpatient services.
The successful candidate will work closely with the existing 5 Respiratory Medicine Consultants. There are opportunities to work with the existing lung cancer team. There would be significant opportunities to engage in Research and education in this post.

Job responsibilities
* The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build a new patient workload and will be a key member of the consultant team in a very busy Respiratory Medicine department, undertaking the following:
* Ward rounds: The post holder will be responsible for up to 15 patients.
* Outpatient Clinics, including one general respiratory clinic and two specialist clinics. Clinic templates are 4 new and 8 follow-up patients.
* Lung cancer services: We have a busy lung cancer service managed by 2 Respiratory physicians and supported by specialist nurses.
* Other sub specialty interests: There are opportunities to work with existing ILD / airways/ INTEGRATED Respiratory care team as part of developing other specialist interests.
* There is a high dependency Respiratory care unit on one of the Respiratory wards cohorting all NIV / HFNO with appropriate nurse staffing support.
* There is currently no on-call Respiratory service. However, during the COVID pandemic, the Respiratory physicians have been providing a weekend ward round service covering the CPAP unit.
* The department is extremely well supported by trainees.
* There are excellent opportunities to undertake Clinical Research activities if the post-holder wishes to do so.
* The post holder will be expected to fulfil an accepted clinical role of a Consultant in a specialty and play an active role in the day-to-day management of the service as well as that of the directorate.
* In addition to accepting the normal Consultant responsibilities for the treatment and welfare of patients under the care of the service, the Consultant will be expected to develop and maintain the necessary excellent liaison and working relationships with all other departments and agencies that are associated with the service both within and outside the Trust.
* The Consultant will be expected to play an active role in the continuing development of all aspects of clinical work of the department and the quality of the service.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MB BS, MB ChB or equivalent.
* Higher medical qualification (e.g. medical education/teaching and MRCP, MRCGP or equivalent) training.
* Full current GMC registration with a licence to practice.
* CCT/Specialist Registration in Respiratory and General Medicine or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
* Postgraduate qualification in medical education/teaching and training.
* PhD, MSc or MA.
* Formal leadership qualification.
Experience
* Completion or nearing completion of higher speciality training or equivalent.
* Experience in Respiratory Medicine.
* Excellent advanced communication skills.
* Experience of participation in and leading clinical audit.
* EBUS experience.
* Thoracoscopy experience.
* Tertiary cancer centre experience.
Skills
* Well organised and skilled in good time management.
* Demonstrate effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors, nurses and other professional groups in a variety of settings.
Knowledge
* Understanding of current issues within the NHS.
* Knowledge of managerial structure within the NHS.
