What's involved with this role: Temporary Public & Green Spaces Operator/Coordinator – Manual Labour Job Ref: Exeter 5256925 Pay Rate: £12.00 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37 Monday – Sunday, 5am to 6pm shift work Role Length: This opening assignment is for up to 1-2 months City: Exeter, Devon Candidates must be prepared to work out of normal working hours when required Shifts begin between 05.00 and 07.00, finish between 13.00 and 18.00 covering 5 out of 7 days, dependent on the role. The purpose of the role is to undertake cleansing and grounds maintenance services to keep the city looking good. Key responsibilities: Removing litter and emptying litter bins at regular intervals as demand indicates. Removing small amounts of graffiti, fly post removal, trimming or removing weed growth and overhanging shrubs and cleaning public toilets, as necessary. Undertaking basic condition inspections of facilities and reporting any obvious maintenance issues. Identifying additional reactive work for specialist teams such as grass cutting, maintenance tasks, mechanical sweeping, tree work, large-scale graffiti removal, hot wash etc. Respond to and resolve simple issues that arise on a daily basis and to highlight other issues to the Public and Green Space Team Leader. Report issues adversely affecting the look and feel of the public realm such as damaged street scene or greenspace furniture and signs, fly-tipping, stray dogs, dog fouling, abandoned cars, littering, illegal use of council land, bins left on pavements etc. Inform members of the public and businesses about your work and help them with their queries and complaints Undertake training on the safe use of equipment and safe working practices and to achieve consistently good performance. Take part in the exchange of ideas and participate in future improvements. Undertake work in a safe and effective manner at all times, following City Council policies and procedures, and to be responsible for your safety and that of the public. Qualifications: Good general standard of education to GCSE standard in two suitable subjects (Maths and English preferred). Skills & Experience: Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation. Must have gardening/horticultural experience. Knowledge of health and safety regulations and requirements Evidence of training in areas such as chainsaw operation and use of specialist machinery Relevant certificates for use of relevant types of equipment, eg LANTRA. Experience of identifying and implementing practical on-site solutions within the Public Realm. Experience of assessing and implementing appropriate Risk Management to a range of differing locations and circumstances. Experience of specialist cleansing or grounds maintenance services activities. Experience of operating a wide range of specialist cleansing or grounds maintenance equipment such as large ride-on sweepers, hydraulically powered tractor mounted equipment’s and HGVs. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite). Full UK driving licence required for this role.
