Research Associate
We are looking to recruit a Research Associate to join the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. This role will support a two year, UKRI funded project, to advance the development of a novel, real-time, point of care assay for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in clinical samples from animals and humans.
In this role, you will:
Conduct research within the fields of Microbiology/Molecular biology and contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in national academic journals and conferences, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students.
Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research including research funding proposals
Engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities.
We’d like to hear from you if you:
Have a PhD in microbiology or molecular biology with a background in diagnostic development
Proven ability to publish in national/international journals
An interest in Physics
The successful candidate will be based in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cardiff University, but will work closely with colleagues in the School of Engineering, Cardiff University (Centre for High Frequency Engineering, developing technology for rapid DNA release and capture), and the University of Aberystwyth (Centre of Excellence for Bovine TB, for supply and testing of real-world samples, and the Engineering Unit, developing novel photonics for DNA detection).

This post is fixed term for a period of 24 months and is full time (1fte).
Salary: £40,247 - £45,163 per annum (Grade 6). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
