The Role:
As an EHC Assessment and Review Coordinator in our high performing bi-borough Special Educational Needs &/or Disabilities (SEND) service, you can make your own powerful contribution to children and young people in the boroughs of Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea.
This is very much a hands-on role in which you will work directly with children and young people at least twice a week. We believe that we should be working directly with our community in order to fully understand their needs - which might go some way to explaining how we have secured a reputation for being one of the best (if not the best) SEND services in the country.
You’ll join a friendly and supportive team who have grown into one of the best rated SEND services in the country, according to very recent inspections by Ofsted and the CQC.
As such you can expect to join a friendly, inclusive and passionate team who are determined to make a difference to the lives of young people aged 0 to 25 and share your passion for supporting children and young people with SEND across the boroughs of Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea.
You’ll be the primary, face-to-face contact for children, young people and their families working within our Annual Review Team your responsibilities will include amending and issuing EHC Plans, consulting for placements and processing phased transfers. As you work in partnership with families, education settings, health and social care services, we’ll look to you to develop and maintain positive and professional working relationships. In everything you do, you’ll ensure compliance with relevant legislation. While this work can be highly pressured and have can have litigious consequences, we know that well considered EHC Plans can transform life outcomes. You will therefore work in partnership not only with the children and young people, but also their families, their teachers and any involved Health and Social Care services to formulate a full understanding of the needs of each child, and the interventions they may require to achieve their full potential.
Remaining as each young person’s primary point of contact, you will become a trusted advisor to everyone involved in each case, seeing to it that a seamless level of support is being delivered by the relevant agencies and organisations, and that the needs of the child or young person remain central to every decision being made.
As an education based service, our core hours are when schools are open. We believe it’s important to work within the communities we serve, so our roles are not fully remote. You can likely expect to work in the locality twice a week, in line with the wider service.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
You’ll bring to the role demonstrable experience of working in a statutory SEND service, as well as working alongside stakeholders within health and social care services. A commitment to improving the lives of children in the diverse communities of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea is vital. Bringing a resilient approach to every day, you will use your previous statutory SEND service knowledge to support a caseload of children and young people, so you will need exceptional organisation and communication skills.
With an in-depth knowledge of the relevant legislation, you will champion partnership working so that you can get multiple stakeholders collaborating together for the benefit of every child. Knowledge of the areas and people we serve would also be a real advantage. You’ll certainly demonstrate excellent communication skills, genuine collaborative spirit and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced environment. And you’ll understand that the rewards of making a difference are so much bigger than any challenges we sometimes face in this vital field of work.
