An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Band 5 radiology practitioner (Nurse/ODP) to join our Radiology team at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt orthopaedic hospital.
The successful applicant will need a Degree/Diploma (or equivalent) in Nursing, effective with the NMC, or Degree/Diploma (or equivalent) in Operating department practice, effective with the HCPC.

Main duties of the job
The role will involve planning, organising and supporting the care of patients as they undergo a variety of interventional procedures within the radiology department. Interventional radiology is a medical specialty that performs minimally invasive diagnostic/therapeutic procedures using medical imaging guidance.
Job responsibilities
As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will be competent in scrub, and assist the radiologist and radiographers in interventional procedures, such as biopsy sampling, ablation therapy and cementoplasty, to name a few, also undertaking pre- and post-procedural duties.
* Ensure all NMC and HCPC Continuing Professional Development requirements are met.
* Ensure Trust policies and procedures are met in relation to personal professional responsibilities.
* Contribute to the appraisal of departmental patient information leaflets, updating as appropriate following national and Trust guidelines.
* Provide advice on nursing care for the team and act as a role model and resource for other members of staff.
* Maintain knowledge of all interventional radiological procedures as carried out within the Trust.
* Set up sterile trolleys for radiological investigations, including scrubbing up for some procedures.
* Advise Radiographers and RDAs on aseptic technique and train RDAs in the setting up of trolleys and care of the patient undergoing investigation.
* Participate in supervision and assessment of clinical competence of the RDAs.
* Act as Link Nurse for Infection Control, advising all team members on current policy.
* Perform general nursing duties regarding patient condition, observations, and IV administration while in the Radiology department.
* Recognise the onset of a medical emergency and act effectively to limit its progress.
* Order, store, dispense, and record drugs in accordance with Patient Group Directives, Trust, and national policy.
* Participate in auditing and implementing necessary changes and service improvements in the department.
* Act as Link Nurse between the department and the wider hospital environment, maintaining a learning environment.
* Communicate efficiently and effectively with the multidisciplinary team and other departments.
* Keep the Department Manager informed of changes in circumstances affecting patient care.
* Promote an environment of openness and support for all staff, patients, and visitors.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* RGN/+- Diploma or Degree. Evidence of CPD.
* Evidence of ability to work autonomously.
Experience
* Orthopaedic Nursing experience.
* Anaesthetic / Recovery experience.
* Attendance at Radiology Nurses Conference.
* Established network of Radiology Nurse Colleagues.
Knowledge and Skills
* Demonstrated experience of dealing with patients and their families in an autonomous role.
* Effective problem solving and decision making skills.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to coordinate a list of patients / colleagues.
