Labcorp is seeking a skilled Veterinary Clinical Anesthetist to join the Department of Animal Welfare and Veterinary Services at our site in Huntingdon. The post holder will provide technical support for all clinical and Animals (Scientific) Procedures Act 1986 - A(SP)A - regulated work performed at the Animal Welfare and Veterinary Services Department. This will include provision of peri-operative surgical support for the veterinary team to ensure high standards of animal care and welfare are always maintained. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Essential Job Duties:
* Support Named Veterinary Surgeon/s in relevant clinical work and provision of laboratory animal medical and surgical care in accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons Act and the Guidance of RCVS Code of Conduct.
* Liaise with and support Named Animal Care and Welfare Officers in the care of the animals housed on site, in line with A(SP)A requirements and as indicated in the guidance notes to the Act.
* Assist Named Veterinary Surgeon/s to ensure company policies and practices regarding animal care and welfare are in compliance with relevant regulations, including GLP procedures.
* Assist in training and supervision of staff on routine regulated and husbandry procedures including anesthesia and surgery.
* Manage surgical theatres and associated areas, including maintenance of relevant equipment, ordering of drugs and consumables, and day-to-day management of dispensary.
* Conduct A(SP)A regulated procedures in accordance with the Personal and Project License authorities.
* Promote and continuously implement the 3Rs principles and culture of care.
Education required:
* Vet nurse, experienced animal technician, or other healthcare professional with evidence of anesthesia and/or surgery experience.
Desired experience:
* Extensive experience of working as a vet nurse/lab animal technician preferred.
* Familiarity with Animals (Scientific) Procedures Act 1986.
* Familiarity with small and large animal species used in a research environment.
* Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals.
