An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join the CDC as a Medical Secretary supporting Consultants at the new and exciting Community Diagnostic Centre.

You will provide an effective and efficient Medical Secretary role to named Consultants within the CDC Gastroenterology service. As a team player, you will be responsible for providing a full secretarial service to the Gastroenterology department. You will be required to use computerized systems such as Patient Centre and PAS. You will have previous secretarial experience and possess excellent organization, communication, typing skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. We recognize that flexible working is important and take requests for flexible working seriously.
Main duties of the job
* To provide senior medical secretarial service directly to named Consultants.
* To collate information for clinical audits if required.
* To undertake medical audio/copy typing duties including outpatient letters to General Practitioners and any other official correspondence.
* Arranging appointments as required.
* Be responsible for arranging special tests requested by the Consultant or Junior Medical Staff.
* To collate investigation results.
* Responsible for obtaining relevant investigation results from PACS and Intranet result service.
* To deal with day-to-day incoming mail, assigning priority and/or taking any necessary action without reference to Consultant staff if necessary.
* To respond to enquiries received from GPs, other Health Personnel, patients, and relatives.
* To maintain patient records and track notes electronically in a manner acceptable to the Trust.
* Engage in the use of Evolve and all other electronic patient notes system.
* To observe absolute confidentiality of all information obtained in the course of your work.
* To liaise with Health Records/Appointments staff regarding outpatient clinic numbers, urgent appointments, and Consultant/Junior Medical Staff annual leave.
* To actively participate in the introduction and use of information technology.
* To undertake any other duties as may be required by the Consultant or line manager in accordance with the needs of the service.

Person Specification
Knowledge, Training & Experience
* Experience in undertaking a full range of office management and secretarial procedures in a hospital environment.
* Experience of using Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Outlook.
* Experience of medical audio typing.
* Experience of using IM&T systems for data extraction/entry.
* Ward or other clinic-based clerical experience.
Qualifications
* AMSPAR Advanced Medical Secretarial Diploma including Medical Terminology or equivalent demonstrable skills/experience.
* Word processing - Qualified to RSA level III/NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification/demonstrable skills (60+ wpm at 98% accuracy).
* ECDL or equivalent qualification/demonstrable skills.
* English GCSE/'O' Level grade C or above/equivalent qualification/demonstrable skills.
* Customer Service Qualification.
* Shorthand Qualification.
Skills & Abilities
* Good communication skills (written and verbal).
* Keyboard/Computer skills/ability to input and retrieve data on a computer.
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
* Practical and working knowledge of medical terminology within multiple specialties.
