Nursery Deputy Manager

Purpose of the role:
The role of the Deputy Setting Manager is to support the Setting Manager to ensure all children attending the setting are receiving high quality care, are kept safe and are welcomed. Our Educators, through our vision and the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) are expected to provide all children with the right to be seen as individual and celebrate them as unique. Children can flourish through stimulating experiences, which can harness their imaginations and allow them to embrace the wonder and awe of the world, every day.
Other key responsibilities include
Engage in effective planning and delivery of effective management of the setting, in accordance with the operational plan and any SLT action plans
Support the Setting Manager to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, plus local authority and OFSTED requirements
To assist the Setting Manager to ensure the provision is of the highest quality at all times and strives to attain the highest ratings such as 'Outstanding'
To maintain the settings ethos
To ensure target occupancy levels are met - in conjunction with the Setting Manager and Chief Executive
To assist the Setting Manager in the recruitment and overall management of all childcare and other staff
To ensure that all staff adhere to setting policies, objectives and code of conduct
To ensure the setting works collaboratively with parents and welcomes their views, thoughts and opinions
To ensure that first and foremost, safeguarding children and staff is our utmost priority
To promote, maintain our reputation for providing exemplary practice
To Support the Setting Manager in effective management and continuous improvement of the delivery of the curriculum
To ensure there is supernumerary management cover 7:30am-6:30pm 51 weeks of the year/ 8:30am-3:00pm throughout term time (delete as appropriate)
To manage the setting in the Setting Managers absence
Skills and abilities
Knowledge and practical understanding of child development and parenting
Knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulations relating to nurseries for young children and the inspections process by OFSTED
Ability to think crucially and make decisions
Able to work independently and to manage own time efficiently
Experience of managing, supervision and appraisal of staff
Ability to develop an effective team
Warm and caring personality - friendly and approachable to families
Ability to create and implement basic systems for child records and reports required for finance, marketing, operational etc as per laid out by the Manager.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels
Commitment to equal opportunities for all children and families
Exposure to management skills such as staff mentoring and guidance, meeting deadlines, efficiently organised

Relevant Experience
A minimum of 2 years post in a Senior position of a good or outstanding setting or a proven track record to improve settings which are below standard.
Experience of working with children 0-5 years old
Experience of working in a large setting
Experience of successfully passing Ofsted Inspection to 'Good or Outstanding'
Education and Training
Educated to GCSE level with passes in four or more subjects, two of which are English and Maths
Childcare qualified to minimum Level 3 from a recognised awarding scheme.
Fully trained in the Early Years Foundation Stage
Fully Trained in Child Protection and Safeguarding Children, behaviour management, special educational needs, health and safety, key person, equal opportunities, safer recruitment
Evidence of managerial training, how to manage people, budgets, Fiscal, recruitment and staff development
A current and valid Paediatric First Aid Certificate (6 hour or 12 hours accredited course)
Fluency in written and spoken English
