Hays are working in partnership with a prominent company based in Northern Ireland, specialising in comprehensive geotechnical and environmental consulting services. The company offers a wide range of services, including site investigations, soil and rock testing, environmental assessments, and geotechnical design. Your new role
The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for various tasks related to civil engineering projects across the UK and Ireland. These activities include:
1. Conducting desktop studies and site walkover surveys.
2. Managing and overseeing ground investigation works, from procurement to reporting.
3. Preparing contract documents, including specifications, mini Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and testing requirements for site investigations.
4. Reviewing factual reports from site investigations and creating interpretive reports that assess soil parameters, provide foundation recommendations, and address groundwater and contamination issues.
5. Coordinating with design teams for geotechnical design, offering options for ground improvement techniques and foundation strategies, including specifying necessary ground improvement works and providing advice on ground settlement.
6. Calculating settlements.
7. Developing project specifications, which may involve both external standard specifications and in-house specifications.
8. Performing engineering analyses, such as slope stability analysis, shallow foundation design, pile design, retaining wall design, soil nail and ground anchor design, and piling platform design.
9. Designing temporary structures for deep excavations.
10. Supervising technicians in creating detailed scheme drawings.
11. Attending design team meetings and client consultations.
12. Following company procedures in accordance with the Quality System.
13. Contributing other general civil engineering skills as needed in various sections of the company.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this Geotechnical Engineering role, this client requires a candidate who has a Degree in Civil/Geotechnical/Geoinformatics/Geology Engineering, preferably 2:1. Candidates must also have relevant experience in Geotechnical Engineering, with good technical knowledge, proficiency in the use of geotechnical analysis and design software, and an awareness of recent developments in engineering design and research.
