Do you love to solve design challenges? Do you want to work as part of a multi-discipline design team? Do you like to see your designs progress from ideas to working machinery?
Participate in new product development as part of a multi-discipline design team. Design the electrical systems that form part of automated machinery. The design team – including you – is responsible for:
1. Understanding design requirements taking into account business requirements, customer discussions, internal and industry standards.
2. Solving technical problems such as resolving conflicting requirements, improving reliability, addressing cost constraints, and other challenges.
3. Mitigating risks through activities such as failure mode analysis, risk assessment, design adjustments, and validation test planning.
4. Completing detailed design of electrical sub-systems including power system sizing, servo equipment sizing, control circuit design, and 3D modeling of electrical equipment and cables on the machine.
5. Participating in team design reviews as projects progress, and checking design documentation before release.
6. Preparing documentation for manufacturing including bills of materials, assembly drawings, cable fabrication drawings, wire preparation schedules, and work instructions.
7. Supporting assembly, test, and installation. Refining designs based on lessons learned.
Minimum technical qualifications:
1. Understanding of electrical system troubleshooting, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
2. Familiarity with circuit design, drafting, and detailing techniques (EPLAN preferred).
3. Familiarity with electrical cabinet layout design, modeling, and detailing techniques (NX preferred).
4. Machinery and Electrical Safety related design experience to North American and International standards is an advantage.
5. Experience selecting and sizing various components is an asset (for example, but not limited to sensors, breakers, contactors, cables, connectors, servo systems, safety equipment, etc.).
6. Strong problem-solving skills and applied learning ability.
7. Strong time management skills and organization for maximum efficiency.
8. A flexible team player with technical experience and 'out-of-the-box' creativity.
9. Attention to detail when completing tasks.
10. Strong communication (verbal, written, and presentation) and collaboration skills.
11. Strong sense of creativity and innovation.
12. Strong sense of ownership.
13. Occasional travel may be required.
