Job Summary
As an Operations Engineer you are responsible to the S01 Digital for provision of service support to all Digital Services supported networks and systems located at Defence Intelligence Training Group (DITG). In particular for ongoing (routine) maintenance & administration of in service Digital Services systems.
In undertaking these duties, you are responsible for obtaining the best value from all resources available to you commensurate with your Specific Standing Responsibilities.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
As Operations Engineer you are responsible for:
1. Undertaking tasks assigned to Digital Services.
2. Undertaking tasks delegated by the SO3 Digital Services commensurate with grade.
3. Ongoing (routine) maintenance & administration of existing Digital Services systems; including early escalation to LM and the SO1 Digital of any tasks that cannot be completed and the risks associated.
4. Installing, configuring and administering computer systems together with their associated peripherals that fall into the areas for which Digital Services is responsible.
5. Installing, enhancing and removing software used by PC systems; ensuring that sufficient licences are available & allocated prior to deployment.
6. Co-ordination & management of operating system, application & security patch management for all Digital supported LANS at Chicksands; including early escalation to LM of any tasks that cannot be completed and the risks associated.
7. Management of backups for all Digital Services supported LANS at Chicksands; including periodic restoration of data on each system to check backup integrity.
8. Providing specialist Operating System support to PC systems.
9. Ensuring that you operate within the Incident, Change and Configuration Management Procedures of Digital Services.
10. Management & annual auditing of Digital Services supported Laptops.
11. Liaison with ITSO, SCIDA and support contractors regarding network support for training/research/operational LANs related to DITG departments or Chicksands lodger units as appropriate.
12. Updating system specific Issues, Risks & Backup logs.
13. Undertaking Capacity Management activities for all Digital Services supported LANs at DITG Chicksands.
14. Provision of weekly system status reports relating to backups, test restores, AV updates, patch updates (including MOD Certs) and capacity management.
15. Production and Annual Review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other documentation required to assist running the Operations Team. SOPs should exist for all standard activities.

Additional Responsibilities
As Operations Engineer you are additionally responsible for:
1. Undertaking duties in support of the Service Desk, Incident Management, Change Delivery Management or Configuration Management functions if required.
2. Production of statistics.
3. Performing any other relevant tasks as directed by Line Manager commensurate with grade.
Person Specification
An Operations Engineer requires a range of IT skills and a good knowledge of TCP/IP & networking, including network administration. Specifically, they will be responsible for the day-to-day provision of hardware, software and technical support to the various network & standalone systems on site at the DITG Chicksands.
An Operations Engineer Should Have a Strong Customer Service Ethos, a Background In I.T Support Including Installation Of Software & Hardware, a Good Working Knowledge Of:
* Windows 2012 Server & 2019 Server.
* Microsoft System Centre 2019.
* Windows 10 Client.
* Office 2016 including Outlook.
* Good fault diagnosis techniques.
As Operations Engineer you are required to hold the ITIL v4 Foundation Certificate, or be willing to pass the qualification within 12 months of taking up post.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
