Job Summary:
Through strong clinical leadership, the Matron will support the Ward and Departmental Senior Nurses to promote excellence in nursing care to maintain and improve clinical standards. The post holder will ensure that all patients are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect, placing value on the diversity of the local community and beyond. He/she will promote best practice in the prevention of infection through ensuring a clean and safe environment, and that clinical practices are in accordance with Trust policy and best practice guidelines to minimise the risk of infection.
The Matron's key responsibility is to ensure that the patient experience is of the highest quality, inspiring patient and public confidence. This will be achieved through high visibility, accessibility, and surveillance. The post holder will be expected to work clinically for an agreed 20% of their time and where required will be a specialist in their clinical area. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Matron's Charter in their area.
The Directors, the General Managers, and the Heads of Nursing lead each Directorate. The Matrons report directly to their Head of Nursing who has overarching responsibility for the operational management and strategic direction of nursing.

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic motivated individual to join the Matron team at the LGT. The successful individual will have a pivotal role in delivering Trust Objectives and ensuring that the care delivered within this specialty reflects the Trust Vision and Values.

The role of the Matron will focus on the provision of high quality, visible, professional leadership, setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence, improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families, carers as well as staff. This person will be supported by a senior clinical and management team.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
* Registered nurse qualification
* Degree or equivalent clinical/advanced practice
* Minimum 5 years post registration
* Masters Degree or working towards
* A proven track record of operational service management at a senior level in an acute hospital environment, including staff management, financial management, and change management.
Desirable
* Evidence of post registration/ qualification
* Management/Leadership qualification
Experience

* Recent experience of working at Band 7 level or equivalent in an acute hospital setting
* Demonstrable previous success in leading and delivering change and performance with and through clinical teams, by engaging them in the strategic direction and delivery plans, establishing clear work priorities with them, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, monitoring performance and giving feedback.
* Leadership of clinical governance and patient safety Achievement of high quality patient care through evidence based clinical practice.
* Management of finances within a budget, including delivery of cost improvements.
* Management/Clinical Leadership experience.
* Experience of successfully leading and implementing change.
* A strong sense of personal and team accountability coupled with a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated authority.
* Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them Ability to think and plan strategically, operationally and creatively and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands.
