Contract Type: Permanent As our student numbers increase and we continue to diversify our programmes and portfolio, we are looking for high-calibre people to join our Finance team as Head of Management Accounts (Senior Financial Accountant). In this critical role, you will be, focused on preparing monthly management accounts for ULaw and its subsidiaries, preparing group management packs and balance sheet reconciliation. This is a fantastic opportunity to enter a well-established and respected department. As Head of Management Accounts, you will work closely with FP&A and report any budget variances, highlight business risk and work towards suitable solutions. As our Head of Management Accounts (Senior Financial Accountant), you will: Month end Oversee the balance sheet, P&L, and month-end close process, providing variance commentary, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the trial balance Responsible for reconciling the balance sheet accounts and reviewing the balance sheet reconciliations prepared by their team Support the Financial Controller with financial analysis Manage monthly intercompany reconciliation with subsidiary companies and group, and ensure compliance with IFRS 15 & 16. Collaborate with FP&A to monitor expenditure against budget and manage business risks Ensuring financial reports are produced in accordance with relevant timetables, and allowing appropriate time for management review Production of analytical tools and analytical memos supporting each one of the reports produced / key balances Audit Key contract person for external auditors and internal stakeholders Assist with annual audit preparations and supporting the production of financial statements. Preparation of technical accounting papers as required to support ULaw’s accounting treatment Process improvement, internal control, risk & policy Develop and maintain financial accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Establish and maintain a best-in-class control environment. To ensure that the University operates under best-in-class financial systems and controls ensuring effective and efficient financial systems and compliance with legislation Identify and analyse financial accounting risk within the business. Enhance processes and controls within the Agresso system, reporting developments to senior management. Team management Managing Financial Accountants through reviewing their work, setting objectives, monitoring performance and providing constructive feedback to support their professional development Provide guidance and training to the team Monitor team KPIs and identify areas for improvement. Other Support treasury management and address HMRC queries promptly. Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Report regularly on cash, debtors, and investments, and ensure good financial management of the University. Other duties may be required as needed.
