The Paediatric Day Case Theatre Unit, within the Dental Hospital, provides general anaesthesia for children up to the age of 16yrs undergoing dental treatment. We currently have vacancy for a full time or 2 part time roles for anaesthetic and recovery ODP's or experienced Registered Nurses (Recovery) to work in our theatre from Monday to Friday. (Registered nurses may apply for an anaesthetic post with a relevant anaesthetic qualification) The Dental Hospital department offers a range of oral surgery, complex care and general dentistry services for children, carried out under general anaesthesia. Within our roles we are able to follow our patients from admission through to discharge offering a bespoke pathway to meet the individual needs of each and every patient. Main duties of the job Anaesthetic Practitioner role: Assist in the provision of care to patients undergoing general anaesthesia throughout their theatre journey as directed and supported by the team leader. Working collaboratively with the anaesthetist and MDT providing all anaesthetic equipment required for the theatre list, completing pre-op safety checks, preparing drugs, monitoring patient observations, patient positioning, assessment, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based patient care and completion of documentation. Offer support to children and their families/carers via clear communication ensuring any additional, specific needs are met. Recovery Role: Recovery of patients in the immediate post operative period. Working autonomously to monitor and assess the patient, using ABCDE approach, through to discharge. Receive handover from anaesthetist, ensure airway is patent, removal of airway devices, ensure haemostasis, administer analgesics as required, share post operative instructions with families/carers/translators, book review appointments. Assess, implement and evaluate evidence-based patient care, complete documentation, and patient discharge. Strong communication skills are required to ensure families are supported, and leave with full understanding of the procedure and post op care instructions.
