Responsibilities
1. Working in a highly regulated environment, develop and implement innovative ways of working, appropriate with a new product introduction.
2. Support production operations.
3. Deliver continuous improvement activities.
4. Optimise productivity & safety.
5. Support cost reduction initiatives.
6. Knowledge and understanding of Manufacturing Instructions & Methods Planning.
7. Produce Engineering outputs to meet on-target delivery dates and Quality requirements.
8. Ensure ‘Right First Time’ outputs are met in-line with Business KPI’s.
9. Be involved with continuous improvement process & offer improvement suggestions.
10. Interface with external stakeholders to understand technical issues / specifications.
11. Attend reviews (both internal and external) where required.
12. Establish standard inspection processes and procedures, to ensure inspection data is robust and valid.
13. Work closely with Design teams, technical experts and research centres to manage key product features throughout the build process.
Qualifications
14. Engineering Degree or equivalent, with proven practical Engineering & manufacturing knowledge and experience
15. Candidates without accredited qualifications will be considered depending upon experience
Essential skills
16. Good knowledge of casting and forging processes and capabilities, high tolerance machining, including pre and post machining operations on exotic and volatile materials in an extremely regulated and controlled environment. Previous experience with metallurgy and the chemistry of materials would be an advantage, as well as experience in developing highly technical material handling solutions.
17. The use of holding and handling Jigs and fixtures to allow delicate and sustained operations to be performed safely, as well as station to station movements/rotations etc, all operations which can be both complex and high tolerance must be completed safely and in a controlled manner and with no risk to the product or personnel.
18. Demonstrable experience working in a manufacturing environment, with engineering design and supply chain.
19. Support prototype build activities with new processes and support resulting evaluative and non-analytical verification.
20. Knowledge and understanding of process control and problem investigation tools (PFMEAs, control plans, RCA, A3, 5 whys).
21. Identify, develop and implement innovative ways of working, commensurate with a new product introduction.
22. Demonstrable experience in product development and developing manufacturing capability and processes.
23. Experience of applying Lean Manufacturing Techniques, Continuous Improvement, Quality Tools, and Model Based Realisation.
24. Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
25. Proactive ‘Team Player’ with a focus on delivery and quality who can work and act autonomously.
26. Excellent communication skills.
27. Have good written and verbal communication skills and be capable of making sound technical judgements and appropriate decisions.
28. Assertiveness, independent, structured way of working and the ability to find oneself in a multicultural working environment.
Desired skills
29. Design to Manufacture (D2M) experience of process, tooling or equipment including requirements capture and presenting at design reviews.
30. Delivering results and driving innovative change.
31. Excellent interpersonal and team building skills capable of building good working relationships within the organisation
32. Understanding of dimensional measurement systems and principles
33. Industrialisation experience (factory layouts, tooling deployment etc)
Experience
34. Experience of Manufacturing Processes and standards.
35. Experience defining or updating assembly or inspection processes is highly desirable.
36. Several years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment.
37. Aerospace & Defence experience preferable but Marine & Automotive will be considered.
38. Proactive Team Player with a focus on delivery and quality.
39. Good communicator who is professional during interactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
