The salary for this role is £37,509. Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.
This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role

As Fusion Skills Outreach Manager, you will play a pivotal role in helping to support the growth of existing outreach activities and the design and development of new ones, with a focus on future fusion recruitment and skills provision. You will be involved in delivering outreach activities to education groups in and around key UKAEA fusion sites (Oxfordshire, Yorkshire, and the STEP fusion powerplant site in Notts / Lincs) and more nationally on occasion.
Key Accountabilities:
* Organise and deliver (additional to the core UKAEA outreach programme) schools and university visits and workshops at the Culham site and a programme of visits from UKAEA staff to schools (primary and secondary) – with inclusive criteria for attendance.
* Devise specific ‘skills’ outreach activities 1) for the UK’s fusion powerplant design programme – STEP, specifically to support a new skills centre at STEP’s West Burton site in Nottinghamshire and 2) Fusion Skills days – where students have a high intensity engagement around fusion skills and careers + visits to site, workshops, talks etc.
* Organise, with the UKAEA education and public outreach manager, 2-3 fusion teacher conferences per year – in fusion areas of expertise and more nationally, supported with fusion related teacher materials.
* Organise a fusion presence at one education/skills focussed science festival per year. Oversee all aspects of stand design, staffing and training – as well as delivery.
* Develop and pilot university fusion awareness campaign – growing and broadening the existing graduate ambassador scheme and developing resources to support this activity.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Experience and demonstrable ability to co-ordinate activities with multiple internal and external partners.
* Experience developing, organising and delivering STEM outreach activities.
* Good public speaker and presenter to a wide variety of differing audiences, especially with primary/secondary schools and university students.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Good team player.
Desirable:
* Qualification or experience equivalent to a degree in a scientific or engineering discipline.
* Experience in evaluating science communication activities.
* Experience and understanding of safeguarding policies and legislation.
* Interest in sustainable energy and net zero.
* UK driving license.
