Engineering Tradesperson (Core Trade Electrical) - Days
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Swansea Bay University Health Board, Estates Department for a highly motivated individual to fulfil an Estates Electrical Craftsperson - Days.
This post is advertised as a Band 5 plus an On Call Allowance.
The post will be based at Morriston Hospital and will support all other Health Board premises within the Morriston Estates Unit.
The role demands that the individual has an extensive knowledge of engineering systems (multi discipline) and building services preferably within the Health Care Sector.
The individual should have a proven track record of fault finding, carrying out pre-planned maintenance in both an electrical and mechanical setting. Fully understanding the legal implications surrounding statutory compliance and engineering governance.
Main duties of the job
To provide a safe, secure and pleasant environment for patients, staff and visitors.
1. Provide multi-skilled engineering expertise across various electrical and mechanical equipment and fabric.
2. Ensure maintenance tasks are fulfilled to appropriate levels of quality in a compliant manner recording actions through helpdesk software via tablets.
3. Maintenance and repair on a range of Industrial, Commercial, Domestic, and Plant equipment.
Typical areas of work include the following:
* Power/Lighting circuits
* Low voltage switchgear
* Emergency Generators and associated switchgear
* Battery systems and uninterruptable power supplies
* Air conditioning equipment and controls, including theatre AHU
* Heating controls, boiler controls and associated equipment
* Lift release
* Nurse call and cardiac arrest systems
* Catering equipment
* Building Management Systems - BMS
* Heating and Hot Water controls, boiler controls and associated equipment
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities
1. Understand, receive and give technical instructions to other Maintenance workers.
2. Provide advice and instruction to other maintenance workers.
3. Provide reports both verbal and written to Team Leaders and Estates Officers.
4. Liaise with senior clinical staff at ward/department level regarding maintenance tasks enabling work tasks to be carried out with minimum disruption to patient support services (i.e. Lighting, power, nurse call system, ventilation etc.) and patient care.
5. Conduct workload in an unobtrusive manner, ensuring clinical and departmental staff are made aware in the locality of any disruption or potential noise etc. to ensure minimum distress levels to patients.
6. Liaise appropriately with external Suppliers and Contractors, dealing with technical queries and information.
7. Provide Shift Relief and/or On-Call.
8. Carry pagers, radios or other communication devices at all times during the working day to enable emergency back-up provision.
The post holder will require completion of a time-served engineering apprenticeship plus experience in an engineering maintenance environment working on systems, plant and equipment.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Completed an accredited Electrical apprenticeship training course to a minimum level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant training or equivalent experience, plus additional training and developed skills, e.g. air conditioning.
* HNC/HND Electrical Engineering.
Skills
* Excellent communication skills. Willing to develop individual knowledge.
* IT Skills.
* Welsh Speaker.
Knowledge
* High level of knowledge and understanding of electrical/mechanical services/systems and a working knowledge of other associated trades. Familiarity with approved guidance documents.
* Knowledge of Health Technical Memoranda.
* General awareness of other engineering maintenance related statutory legislation.
