Exeter School is the leading co-educational day school in the Southwest, educating over 1,000 pupils aged 3-18. We are looking to appoint a teacher of geography to join our school, a school of great character.
For September 2025, we seek an enthusiastic, well-qualified geography graduate to join this strong department. This position would be equally suited to either a newly qualified or a more experienced applicant. The applicant should be keen to contribute to the broader life of the school through cultural, sporting or other extra-curricular activities.
The geography department believes strongly in the contemporary importance of the subject. It successfully inspires and challenges curious pupils encouraging a love of geography beyond the restraints of exam board specifications. The department also offers an extensive range of extra-curricular activities for the pupils such as participation in local and national competitions, visits from various speakers, and both day and residential trips. In recent years the department has led trips to Iceland, Morocco, Sicily and the Swiss Alps.
The geography department is staffed by four subject specialists who are deeply passionate about geography and the environment. The department itself is well-equipped and situated in the heart of the school with panoramic views of the school site. There are four classrooms each of which has a whiteboard connected to a desktop computer as well as a wide range of teaching resources.
Academic standards are high, and the department has much to celebrate when it comes to public examination results, the most recent details of which may be found on our website. Geography is a very popular choice at GCSE and A level and several pupils successfully apply to leading universities for Geography every year, including Oxbridge.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 5 March 2025 at noon. We anticipate that interviews will be held on Monday 17 March 2025.
The role will attract a competitive salary as well as generous benefits including employer pension contribution, free school lunch during term time, free on-site parking, discretionary staff discount on school fees and use of indoor swimming pool and fitness suite.
