Our Solihull Children's Community Nursing service is based at Friars Gate, one of UHB Trusts Solihull Community sites. We have an established Children's Nursing service that offers care and support to children and young people with complex and palliative care needs. This service is integrated with the Solihull Children's Community Learning Disability Nursing Team and Solihull Special School Nursing Team and has a close working relationship with Solihull Community Paediatrics medical and therapy Services.
We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate children's nurses to support with the co-ordination, provision and progression of this service. We are part of a multi-professional team and pride ourselves in the positive outcomes we support children and young people to achieve. A flexible working approach is essential in supporting our children and their families.
Our team also provides home-based End Of Life Care to children and young people in Solihull, including a 24-hour support rota to meet the changing needs of the child and family.
The team regularly operates from 09.00 -- 18:30 hours Monday to Friday, and Saturday and Bank Holidays (excluding Christmas Day) 09.00 -- 13.00 hours.
Applicants must hold a full current UK driving licence and have regular access to their own car for community visits.
Main duties of the job
Our successful candidates will be Registered Children's Nurses with a minimum of 2 years post-registration community/complex needs experience. Excellent communication skills are essential, and applicants should be committed to delivering high-quality care to children at home, school, and in community settings. Good team working and interpersonal skills are essential, with an ability to manage your own time, own caseload, and to support junior colleagues with supervision, appraisal, and revalidation.
This role requires a candidate who is confident and enthusiastic about supporting children with complex and palliative needs to maximise their potential and who can confidently and enthusiastically engage with and support parents. You will contribute to Children's Continuing Care Assessments, Safeguarding meetings, teaching, competency training, staff support, and team management.
It includes clinical interventions and skill-based competencies. You will participate in palliative, end of life care, including contribution to a 24-hour on-call rota. Experience with children with palliative care needs, including Advanced Care Planning, is essential, as is knowledge of end of life care processes; experience in delivering end of life care support is desirable. Your role as care co-ordinator will involve triage and appropriate allocation of referrals and clinical caseload supervision with junior members of the team.
