Duty Manager
Location: Cambridge
Salary: £33,800 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 40 hours per week over 5 days per week, with a half an hour (unpaid) lunch break.
The Perse School is one of the country’s leading independent co-educational days schools for children aged 3-18 who attend their Pelican, Prep or Upper.
The Role
The Duty Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective daily management and operation of the swimming pool, climbing wall and sports hall within the Perse School Sports Centre. Particular focus will be on ensuring that the facilities are appropriately maintained, staffed and managed ensuring an effective and efficient service is provided for the benefit of the School and outside users.
The Duty Manager will work alongside the Sports Centre Manager to assist in the delivery of a learn to swim programme and help coordinate a programme of other sports hirings.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties
* To act as the shift lead to ensure all tasks are carried out in a timely and effective manner
* To carry out lifeguard duties to ensure the safety, welfare, supervision and control of all bathers or users of the swimming pool during designated sessions, and dealing with emergencies should they arise
* To set up and de-rig areas and equipment in accordance with the daily programmes, checking regularly for amendments with planned activities and taking action accordingly
* To ensure that sports areas, teaching spaces, communal and access areas are prepared, safe and effective for the programme
* To supervise, intervene and promote safe practices and behaviours within the Sports Centre facilities
* To process financial transactions, take bookings and reconcile daily income in line with The Sports Centre procedures
* To cover departmental duties including reception as and when required
* To maintain the NPLQ qualification by attending regular onsite training and any other mandatory training or meeting as required for the post
School and Community Use
* To ensure the facilities are set up and available for school, lettings and community bookings
* To promote and encourage the use of facilities and services ensuring the highest standards of customer relations are maintained
* To work with the pool staff to ensure the programme of activities runs smoothly
Building and Equipment
* Ensuring daily management and integrity of the swimming pool and facilities of the Sports Centre are maintained
* Ensure that the Sports Centre facilities (including the pool itself, the pool hall, sports hall, climbing wall, changing areas, toilets, central atrium and other areas) are maintained to a high daily standard. This will involve the inspection, supervision and completion of cleaning, the appropriate setting up, management and storage of equipment and arranging repairs or replacements where necessary
Health, Safety and Security
* To uphold the safety, security and welfare of yourself, school pupils, external users and your colleagues in accordance with all centre procedures and H&S legislation and raising any concerns regarding this issue with the Sports Centre Manager
* Oversee the safe daily operation of the Sports Centre and its adjacent car park, ensuring the facilities are safe, clean and welcoming
* To ensure the Normal Operating Procedures (NOP) are followed and to comply with and implement the Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
Management, Training and Development
* Line manage the Sports Centre staff including inductions, appraisals and performance management
* Assist in the recruitment of staff and co-ordination of staff patterns and rotas for all staff, ensuring compliance with staffing numbers and ratios
* To adhere to the Perse Sports Centre policies and procedures, and ensure they are followed by all sports centre staff
Skills and Qualifications
* Management experience in a relevant role, including management of teams of staff
* Experience working in a leisure environment
* Experience managing third party use of facilities
* Experience in providing support to the senior staff
* Current and valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
* Pool Plant Operators Licence
* First Aid at Work certificate
* Experience in setting clear direction for others
* Ability to recommend and assist in setting up and improving procedures
