Middlesbrough Council are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Public Health Officer to support the North East Reducing Gambling Harms network.
The post will contribute to the delivery of a regional programme of work, addressing the harms and inequalities associated with gambling. Due to the programme’s footprint, this post is being recruited on behalf of the North East Association of Directors of Public Health and each local authority in the region.
“All members of society have the right to live without unnecessary and preventable risk to health and safety from gambling products and gambling industry practices, whether land-based or online” Association of Directors of Public Health
The network is a new, dedicated multi-agency partnership approach with representation from public health, licensing and the NHS. It will also involve working alongside academic partners to embed a culture of test, evaluate, learn and report.
This will enable a robust multi-method evaluation approach to be applied to interventions and support for knowledge mobilisation and wider dissemination. You can find out more about the programme here.
Applications are invited from dynamic individuals who are keen to support the implementation of this programme across the entire region. This post will focus on gambling-related harms and be responsible for delivering on specific public health priorities. This will be achieved by:
1. Supporting and managing a range of public health programmes focusing on key priorities relating to ill-health prevention associated with gambling-related harms.
2. Assisting the coordination and delivery of a regional programme of work specific to gambling-related harms.
3. Working closely with a wide range of partners to build system capacity and test a range of interventions across the region.
4. Supporting primary, secondary and tertiary prevention approaches to address gambling-related harms.
5. Building relationships with key organisations, communities and the VCS to achieve outcomes.
6. Leading on specific areas of work directed by the Advanced Public Health Practitioner, contributing to the wider public health agenda.
Please note this role is a hybrid working role and each day can look different, meaning there will be opportunities to work from home but also some in-person requirements across the region.
The role is funded to a minimum of 18th September 2026, however, there is the prospect that additional funding could be available to extend the programme.
