Neurology Department - Pathway Coordinator (Medical Secretary)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pathway Coordinator to join the Neurology team, based on level 10 at Derriford Hospital.
The role is demanding and interesting and will require someone who is flexible and able to work well within a busy environment, has attention to detail skill to manage a variety of tasks to meet deadlines within the service.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, capable and motivated individual to join our team. The post-holder will be working closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to ensure tasks are completed to a high standard to ensure the smooth running of the service.
The ideal candidate must have a flexible 'can do' attitude and the ability to use own initiative with excellent communication/interpersonal and IT skills.
Working hours: Part Time - 27.75 hours

Main duties of the job
* Ensuring the delivery of a high-quality service to the clinical teams.
* Enabling the delivery of all access standards.
* Compliance with administrative processes, policies, and guidelines.
Job responsibilities
* Have knowledge of the latest local and national access standards and targets relevant to the specialty.
* Support the proactive management of all relevant waiting lists and target reports.
* Ensure that patients are proactively managed through the administrative systems designed to support their care journey.
* Minimise data quality issues and action reports as directed by the Clinical Administration Manager.
* Update databases and manage audits where relevant.
* Ensure outpatient clinical sessions are booked effectively.
* Efficiently manage correspondence received into the department.
* Attend specialty meetings as required.
* Manage clinic cancellations according to standard processes.
* Ensure inpatient and/or day case admissions and theatre bookings comply with clinical protocols.
* Manage patient case-notes according to Trust policy.
* Respond promptly to telephone queries from colleagues and patients.
* Comply with all Trust standard processes, policies, and guidelines.
* Contribute towards the achievement of administrative quality and performance standards.
* Support the management of clinical commitments and diaries for the relevant clinical team.
* Respond to complaints to minimize the risk of escalation.
* Communicate with all levels of healthcare staff and manage anxious patients and their relatives with tact and discretion.
* Cover for colleagues during annual/sick leave and supervise new staff/students.
* Use Trust IT systems to produce and extract information for patient care.
* Provide general administrative support to the clinical team and clinical pathway as appropriate.
Carry out any other duties as directed by the Clinical Administration Manager/Specialty Co-ordinator.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Proven NVQ Level 3 in Business and Administration or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Proven RSA III keyboard skills or equivalent.
* Proven NVQ III in Administration.
Knowledge & Experience
* The ability to work within a clinical office scenario.
* Demonstrable good levels of computer literacy.
* Demonstrable knowledge of waiting list management.
* Demonstrable knowledge of iPM.
Aptitude & Abilities
* Ability to resolve conflicting situations.
* Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.

Salary: £24,071 to £25,674 a year Per Annum Pro Rata
