Due to growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Employment Associate (NQ+) to join their team based in Oxford and take responsibility for a diverse caseload of contentious and non-contentious matters.
The employment practice is looking for an ambitious Associate, ideally with NQ+ post qualification experience, to join the team. This role will encompass predominantly private sector employer work for a wide range of businesses but will also involve work for (in the main senior level) employees. Employment legal knowledge is essential, as is an understanding of the various IT platforms used to assist in litigation, case management, and marketing.

Due to the calibre of their employment team and firm generally, the team frequently attracts blue-chip companies, senior executives, and other high-profile HNW individuals as clients. The ideal individual will have trained with a regional or city firm and gained solid commercial acumen. You will be able to exhibit a consistent and successful track record in business development.
The team’s Chambers-rated employment services include advising on: employment contracts and policies, performance and absence management, disciplinary and grievance procedures, and managing restructuring, redundancies, and executive severance as well as ad-hoc, day-to-day support to employers. The team also advises on all aspects of disputes and discrimination issues, regularly dealing with Employment Tribunal and High Court litigation.
The successful candidate will have strong employment law experience, and experience in the Higher Education sector would be particularly desirable.
The successful candidate will work closely with partners in Oxford and Cambridge in relation to higher education employment and employment-related work, as well as with fee-earners in Oxford and the wider firm in relation to employment matters. There will be ample opportunity for business development.
Responsibilities
The candidate is needed to perform the full range of employment work and to participate fully in business development. The successful candidate will be expected to get involved with the team’s work within the education sector (especially in Oxford and Cambridge) and to undertake some police-related work, as well as general claimant (mainly senior executive) and respondent work, and corporate support.
This person will be expected to provide a profitable contribution to the work of the Employment Team, Education Sector group, and Business Services Division and be expected to deliver a high-quality commercial legal service ensuring personal compliance with quality standards and professional ethics and to be an ambassador for the firm at all times and always promote it in a positive light.
The firm’s top-ranked employment team handles a wide range of quality contentious and non-contentious work including employee relations advisory work, disputes in the tribunal and courts, drafting employment documentation, corporate transactions, and commercial outsourcing TUPE work. The employment team also works closely with the immigration team, advising employers and individuals in relation to immigration matters. The team’s workload is increasingly top-end, complex, premium work and accordingly we are working to strengthen our capacity.
Experience of at least one of the following is preferred:
* Advising on TUPE issues and drafting complex TUPE provisions;
* Employment agencies, employment businesses and agency worker matters;
* Corporate Restructuring;
* Settlement Agreements;
* Discrimination Issues;
* Restrictive Covenants + Confidentiality;
