About the Role
This is an exceptional opportunity to take the helm as the Managing Director of Terra Verde Services. You will provide strategic leadership and operational direction, guiding the organisation through its next phase of development. As Managing Director, you will be responsible for delivering on TVS’s business plan, ensuring high-quality services for Epping Forest District Council while exploring opportunities to expand the company’s operations and income streams.
Day-to-day, you will oversee all aspects of TVS’s services, from waste and recycling to street cleansing and fly-tip removal. You will ensure the effective management of finances, outsourced services, and health and safety compliance while working closely with the Council’s commissioning arm to align organisational goals. Your ability to build and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders, including elected members and council officers, will be critical to your success.
A key focus will be driving organisational change to optimise the inherited management structure and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. You will lead the charge in identifying and delivering efficiency savings, enhancing services, and championing a robust health and safety culture. Additionally, your expertise in strategic planning and business development will ensure TVS remains financially sustainable while continuing to meet its statutory obligations.
About You
We are seeking an inspirational leader with a proven track record of managing waste, recycling, or environmental services at a senior level. You will bring a strong understanding of public sector service delivery, coupled with operational expertise and the ability to navigate the complexities of a political environment effectively. While a background in the commercial sector is welcome, it is essential that you have a solid understanding of local government and the political context in which these services operate. Your ability to bridge operational excellence with strategic vision will be key to driving high-quality, sustainable outcomes for our community.
Your strong leadership skills will enable you to inspire, influence, and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from operational teams to elected members. A clear understanding of UK waste legislation, combined with experience in health and safety compliance within an industrial environment, is essential. You should also have a strong grasp of financial management, including profit and loss accountability and a history of delivering efficiency savings and performance improvements.
While qualifications such as IOSH Managing Safely and membership in the Chartered Institute of Waste Management are essential, we value significant professional experience and a proven ability to drive organisational success just as highly.
