Who is the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner?
A Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is an elected official charged with securing an effective and efficient policing area, and to ensure that local police meet the needs of the community.
Every police force area is represented by a PCC, except Greater Manchester and London, where PCC responsibilities lie with the Mayor. The first incumbents were elected in 2012 and served for three and a half years. Subsequent PCCs are elected on a four year basis, with the most recent Dafydd Llywelyn elected in May 2016 and again in May 2021.
The PCC works with the support of a team of professionals who each have specific responsibilities.
They advise the PCC in areas such as estates, finance, policy, performance and statistics, public engagement, collaborations and partnerships, and support me to discharge my responsibilities as a Commissioner.
These individuals are in politically restricted posts and do not support any political work the PCC undertakes.
Dyfed Powys Police are the largest geographical police force in England and Wales, proudly serving the communities of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and Powys. The population we serve may be small in numbers (around 515,000 people) but the dynamic landscape means we must be innovative with our policing approach to cater for our communities’ differing needs, which includes a vibrant tourist economy during the summer months.
