Electrical Engineering Lead – An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Engineering Lead to play a key role in maintaining and developing the electrical services at a hospital. This role is integral to ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of estates services, supporting patients, visitors, and staff while maximizing the hospital’s assets.\n Key Responsibilities:\nOversee Electrical Services – Lead the engineering maintenance and management of electrical services across the hospital site.\nService Delivery & Estates Management – Ensure that estates services meet the Trust's operational needs, delivering high-quality, efficient, and effective services within allocated resources.\nTechnical Advisory Support – Provide professional and technical estates advice to the Head of Estates, Trust staff, external contractors, and consultants on operational and maintenance matters.\nRegulatory Compliance – Ensure full adherence to Statutory Standards, Health & Safety Guidance, HTM (Health Technical Memoranda), COSHH, Building Regulations, and NHS Executive Directives related to Estates Services.\nMaintenance & Project Oversight – Manage all engineering maintenance, including contract work, acting as the Trust Clerk of Works for site inspections, testing, and commissioning of new and refurbishment projects.\nSpecialist Equipment & Services – Ensure maintenance, testing, and commissioning of specialist engineering services and equipment used for patient care, including:\n\nPiped medical gases\nTheatre air testing\nHigh & Low Voltage Systems\nPlanned & Statutory Maintenance – Monitor and review the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) system and ensure all Statutory Planned Maintenance (SPM) compliance is achieved.\nEngineering Governance & Safety – Take the lead in all governance aspects, including:\n\nIncident and complaints management\nRisk assessments and register management\nHealth & Safety compliance (RIDDOR, COSHH, LOLER, etc.)\nAuthorised Person (AP) Responsibility – Act as Authorised Person (AP) for relevant building systems (e.g., HV, LV, HVAC).\nAsset Management & Project Delivery – Implement and maintain the site asset register, overseeing minor schemes and Capital Works from design through to completion.\nPerformance & Staff Management – Monitor performance, develop individual objectives, and conduct performance reviews for staff. Motivate and support the team to meet targets and goals.\nStaff & Conduct Management – Ensure adherence to Trust policies on sickness, attendance, dress code, and conduct, taking disciplinary actions where necessary.\nPolicy & Compliance Development – Maintain and update divisional policies and procedures in line with Estates legislation and Trust protocols, fostering a culture of safety.\nStrategic Estates Support – Assist the Estates Manager in planning, developing, and implementing estates strategies, including:\n\nAddressing backlog maintenance\nManaging non-capital works\nWorking with the Energy Manager to promote energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and sustainability\nResearching and identifying new engineering technologies\nEmergency & On-Call Duties – Participate in the emergency on-call roster, supporting operational staff outside regular hours.\nProject & Report Contribution – Assist in producing reports and supporting project work as required.\nProfessional Development – Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses relevant to the role.Experience/Qualifications:\nProven engineering management experience including staff management and supervisory responsibilities.\nPrevious experience and understanding of Estates maintenance.\nPerformance management/operational management experience.\nExperience and knowledge of technical developments, financial procedures, and statutory regulations.\nEducated to at least HNC level or equivalent in an engineering subject, or relevant experience.\nRelevant NHS experience is highly desirable.\nRelevant management qualification to Diploma level or equivalent.\nAuthorised Person (AP) for any building system.Skills & Abilities:\nCommunication Skills – Excellent oral and written communication skills.\nAnalytical & Judgemental Skills – Ability to work on own initiative, interpret complex policies and national guidance, and implement change.\nPlanning & Organisational Skills – Ability to prioritise workloads effectively.\nPeople Management & Development – Ability to build teams and work across boundaries.\nIT Skills – Proficient with IT systems and various software tools.\nPersonal Qualities – Self-motivated, confident, and leadership-oriented with a commitment to training.\nBehaviours & Attitudes – Demonstrates behaviours that align with the Trust’s values of Compassion, Communication, Teamwork, Respect, Professionalism, and Inclusion.\nFreedom to Act – Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision
