Position Summary
We are seeking to hire a healthcare underwriter to join our Manchester office. The role will be focused mainly on Healthcare package business namely medical malpractice, PL & EL and will service all UK regional locations (outside of London) and will cover both new and existing business.
The role will work under broad supervision, responsible for underwriting risks in a book of business. Works within limited authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity. Utilises underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Reviews applications and financial requirements for risks requiring technical underwriting skills.
2. Determines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
3. Recommends appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis and consideration of applicant documentation, business factors and competitive situations.
4. Prepares quotations and answers questions from Brokers, internal and external contacts and escalates issues as necessary.
5. Prepares written communications on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations. Verbally notifies Brokers of decisions where appropriate in order to ensure clear understanding of the decision.
6. Analyses quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten and prepares reports for
7. management review.
8. May assist in marketing products and services through the brokerage community and makes field visits.
9. Develops and maintains positive Broker relationships.
10. Keeps current on state/territory issues, regulations and trends.
11. Works with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
12. Develop proficiency in all relevant CNA systems.
13. May update the underwriting systems.
14. May perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
15. C. 3 years experience working in Healthcare either in a underwriting or broking environment.
16. Knowledge of the Healthcare/Medical Malpractice market and products
17. Developing technical expertise and negotiation skills.
18. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
19. Ability to effectively interact with peer level CNA internal and external business partners.
20. Ability to work independently.
21. Strong analytical and problem solving skills
22. Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound business decisions effectively.
23. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
