As a Risk Manager, you will manage and lead the implementation and delivery of a range of risk services to support commissions and provide line management leadership and guidance for others within the PMO and planning centre of excellence as required.
You’ll be responsible for:
1. Accountable for the risk management performance of assigned commission(s).
2. Creating/designing effective risk management frameworks/strategies on assigned commission(s).
3. Managing and directing clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams on assigned commission(s) regarding all risk management matters.
4. Partnering with clients to meet their expectations and build strong professional relationships.
5. Providing expert advice and support to project/programme teams in the administration of the risk process, particularly with respect to the risks to achievement of key project objectives and escalation of risks.
6. Facilitating and driving the delivery of risk workshops.
7. Working with project managers to recognize opportunities and mitigations to minimize risk exposure.
8. Ensuring risk mitigation action plans are developed, risk and action owners appointed, and that project plans are updated and monitored accordingly.
9. Leading and directing the delivery of project/programme quantitative risk analysis (cost and time).
10. Commenting on the adequacy of contingency as part of the regular reporting cycle as required.
11. Developing and delivering monthly risk reports, externally to the client and internally to the project team.
12. Ensuring all activities/operations are carried out in line with Mace control centre, client requirements, and prevailing legislation.
13. Providing line management to team and other project/programme members.
14. Utilizing expertise to mentor and assist the personal and career development of junior members of the risk team.
15. Leading the integration of risk with PMO and planning disciplines.
16. Supporting the HUB risk lead with resourcing and recruitment for the assigned commission.
17. Working collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and sharing responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
You’ll need to have:
1. Experience of effective risk leadership on complex construction projects.
2. Experience of setting up effective risk management/assurance frameworks/strategies.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of risk tools, techniques, and software (e.g., Active Risk Manager, riskHive, @risk, Primavera Risk Analyser).
4. Ability to manage activities with significant uncertainty of solution or outcome.
5. Good understanding of construction projects, dependencies, and interfaces within the project lifecycle.
6. Deep domain knowledge of providing risk leadership in one or more sectors (e.g., rail, highways, nuclear, public sector, hospitals).
7. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to form effective working relationships.
8. Ability to collaborate with and influence others.
9. Proven ability to articulate complex information and ideas for a non-technical audience.
10. Ability to work in a highly pressurized environment, managing multiple priorities.
11. Ability to manage, influence, and negotiate with senior stakeholders.
12. Strong attention to detail and ability to ‘deep dive’ into topics.

20. Min. 5 years’ experience or equivalent delivering a range of project risk management services on major construction projects.
You’ll also have:
1. Practical knowledge/application and understanding of opportunities related to risk/data analytics.
2. Experience with Power BI and other reporting suite tools.
3. Basic knowledge of tools, techniques, and software that interface with the risk discipline (e.g., planning tools, Astra, P6, MS Project).
4. Experience of working client-side as well as in consultancy.
5. Creating and delivering persuasive and engaging presentations to a wide range of audiences in our industry.
6. Relevant university degree (e.g., risk management, engineering) or equivalent.
7. Chartered (or equivalent) membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., Association of Project Managers/Institute of Risk Management).
