Interim Children and Families Senior Lawyer

Pay Rate: up to £40.70 per hour PAYE max
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 5-6 months

Hybrid: Must be able to undertake remote and in-person advocacy. Must be able to attend the office once a week.
The Children and Families Senior Lawyer will provide expert legal advice and representation on complex legal matters concerning children, families, and child protection, and, where applicable, external bodies. The role involves working on high-priority projects and cases, contributing to the professional development of the team, and ensuring the best outcomes for children and families through proactive legal support and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, including the City Council and external partners, to achieve service and council-wide objectives related to child protection and family law.
2. Provide timely, high-quality legal advice on complex matters such as care proceedings, adoption, and child protection cases.
3. Use analytical skills to interpret complex case information, identifying key legal issues, risks, and implications for clients.
4. Communicate legal advice clearly and effectively, ensuring it is understandable to various audiences including social workers, court officials, and families.
5. Advocate in court with exceptional skills to secure the best outcomes in care proceedings, child protection hearings, and family court cases.
6. Use strong negotiation and influencing skills to achieve positive outcomes in cases involving children and families.
7. Maintain a solution-focused approach, seeking practical ways to achieve desired outcomes for clients while exploring all available legal options.
Key Requirements:
1. A practising barrister, solicitor or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (if FCILEX, with Advocacy Certificate)
2. Extensive knowledge of the law relating to children and families.
3. Extensive recent experience of dealing with complex, high value and sensitive children and families matters.
4. Application of strong analytical reasoning skills and intellectual focus, taking in the wider external and internal environments.
5. Ability to manage a complex range of functions and manage multiple priorities with confidence.
