Our client, a Maritime and Defence supplier, is looking for Mechanical Design Engineers to join them on a contract basis.
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must hold sole British nationality and be eligible for SC Clearance. This is a 6-month contract with hybrid working out of either Bristol or Barrow-in-Furness. The position is OUTSIDE IR35, and rates are open to negotiation.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide mechanical technical support to all stages of the design lifecycle, from concept definition and system/equipment development, through first article and formal qualification, to manufacture and customer acceptance, under the general supervision of the Principal Mechanical Engineer and Technical Manager.
2. Work closely and build relationships with our internal systems engineering and design teams in generating mechanical specifications and environmental requirements, developing robust product designs, and defining and implementing cost-effective design for manufacturing strategies.
3. Develop mechanical/structural designs. Produce and take ownership of the design artifacts, including 3D models, mechanical drawings, BOMs, etc.
4. Perform tolerance stack analysis and shock/stress analysis/calculations of mechanical designs, with the capability to justify analysis and calculations.
5. Develop mechanical/structural design in line with environmental/shock qualification plans and strategies in support of equipment/system development and formal acceptance.
6. Assist in the development of engineering plans and statements of work with guidance from the Project Manager and Technical Manager.
7. Support the review of design artifacts produced by design sub-contractors against all relevant mechanical requirements to verify/validate compliance and ensure company mechanical and environmental/shock design principles are being followed.
8. Support the Project Manager and Project Technical Manager in the preparation of engineering impact assessments and proposals from change requests.
