As Finance Assistant you will be responsible for the day-to-day tasks in the Finance department. You will support the finance team with the input of operational transactions into the financial systems, maintain accurate accounting records and perform appropriate controls and reconciliations. This is a broad finance role offering the opportunity to work with different departments within the organisation, and the opportunity to progress in accordance with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities of the role
Working under the supervision of the management accountant who will guide them, and give directions to perform the relevant accounting and financial tasks
* Journal entries and assisting with the preparation of the management accounts
* Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss reconciliations
* Cashbook entries and bank reconciliations
* Controlling and ensuring refunds are processed appropriately
* Assisting with year-end audit queries and liaising with the external auditors
* Processing & reconciling credit card statements and supplier invoices
* Resolving both internal and external queries accurately and on a timely basis
* Cashflow analysis and other ad hoc duties as required
* Responding to queries by email or in person
* Assistance with the preparation and reconciliation of VAT returns
Experience
* Familiarity with business principles and practices
* Good working knowledge of MS Excel
* One year experience in similar accounting/bookkeeping role.
* Basic knowledge of Sage or similar accounting systems
Skills
* A strong and confident communicator
* Ability to prioritise and organize your work to ensure that it is completed within the given time limit.
* Problem-solving and analytical skills
* Motivated team player with good interpersonal skills and a strong desire to support the wider finance team
* Understanding of basic accounting / bookkeeping concepts
