About the School
Redbridge High School is a highly successful secondary school in the Liverpool City Region which caters for pupils aged 11-19. Pupils have severe learning difficulties and/or profound and multiple learning difficulties and autism. The proportion of pupils with PMLD is 12% and ASC 61%. All ASC pupils have a primary need of severe learning difficulty. This has implications for the organisation of the school to ensure the specific needs of these pupils are met. This is achieved through some discrete class provision. Redbridge has 146 pupils on roll and is one of 4 SLD schools that meet the SEND needs for Liverpool families, two primary and two secondary schools. Pupils come from across the City with transport being provided by the LA and is recognised as offering outstanding provision. It has been accredited by the National Autistic Society since 2013 with all inspections recognising the highly effective provisions in place. Liverpool is a city wide area of deprivation, 69 of our families receive free school meals, 47% of the pupil population, 18% of the pupils are ‘Looked after Children’ and these needs are addressed through effective multiagency working. We have a committed and experienced staff team and a high value is placed on regular specialised staff training at all levels.
Redbridge is fortunate to have moved to a new bespoke build in September 2015 and enjoys many specialist areas including several multisensory spaces, a large hydrotherapy pool, music room, rebound room, ICT suite, separate gym and generous well designed outdoor areas to extend learning. All pupils have EHCP’s and these form the basis for personalised learning via a Pre-formal, Semi-formal or Formal learning pathway. Communication and Independence skills underpin all curriculum work at Redbridge and form the essential baseline to learning. Pupils in KS3 access Arts awards Discovery and Explore and the achievements of pupils in KS4 and 5 are recognised through accreditation and qualifications including ASDAN, Open Awards at Entry Level and Duke of Edinburgh.
In addition to four consecutive ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted inspections, the school was awarded Teaching School status in 2015 and is part of the Merseyside SEN Teaching School Alliance along with three other SLD Teaching Schools. Redbridge currently holds many awards in recognition of the high quality of teaching and learning the school provides eg Artsmark Gold, Eco award, Healthy Schools and Sport England award. These awards have supported the school in reviewing and monitoring the quality of our provision over many years. The school is part of a learning network of schools and is also part of a regional network of schools, Merseyside SLD schools Network that facilitates high quality cost effective staff development in addition to benchmarking activities particularly moderation of pupils’ work.
