Overview: Oakfields Health Group is seeking a proactive General Practice Assistant (GPA) to support our team in delivering high-quality care. This 25-hour per week role enhances GP efficiency by managing routine administrative and clinical tasks. Join our forward-thinking Primary Care Network (PCN) team and contribute to projects that meet patient needs. This position is contingent on ARRS funding.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties of the Role: As a GPA, your responsibilities will include:
* Performing urinalysis for practice patients on behalf of the surgeries.
* Conducting phlebotomy as required.
* Requesting and managing blood tests for patients needing regular monitoring.
* Investigating and following up on referrals from the Enhanced Access Contract.
* Collaborating with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver holistic care to patients with complex needs.
* Supporting PCN projects and LIAISE contract as directed by NHS England (NHSE) and the Integrated Care Board (ICB).
* Supporting quality improvement projects such as QoF, QASI, audit and policy development.
* Completing routine paperwork and preparatory tasks prior to GP review.

About Us: Oakfields Health Group operates from 2 surgery premises: Oakfields Health Centre & Dipton Surgery. We have a growing list size of circa 7,600 patients and a core opening hours of 8.30am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Our team includes 6 GPs, 3 Nurse Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses & 2 HCAs, supported by a reception/admin/secretarial team across the 2 sites.
Job Responsibilities
Administrative Support:
* Organising clinical post, prioritising GP actions, and signposting to relevant team members (e.g., clinical pharmacists).
* Extracting and coding information from clinical letters into patient records.
* Arranging appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-ups for patients.
* Completing core elements of non-opinion forms (e.g., insurance or benefits agency forms) for GP approval and signature.
Clinical Support:
* Preparing patients for GP appointments, including taking brief histories and performing basic observations.
* Conducting clinical tasks such as urinalysis, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, and phlebotomy.
* Assisting with immunisations, wound care, and treatment procedures as required.
Liaison and Communication:
* Supporting GPs in liaising with outside agencies, such as contacting on-call doctors or arranging admissions.
* Providing clear and effective communication within the team, with patients, and with external agencies.
Quality Assurance:
* Participating in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
* Contributing to team effectiveness by reflecting on activities and suggesting improvements.
* Maintaining compliance with practice protocols and guidelines.
Confidentiality: The post-holder will ensure patient confidentiality is maintained in line with practice policies and data protection legislation. Sensitive information should only be shared with authorized personnel.
Health and Safety: The post-holder will follow personal and workplace safety protocols, identify and manage risks effectively, and use appropriate infection control measures.

Qualifications and Experience:
* Working towards completion of the Trainee GPA HEEs accreditation program framework.
* Experience performing clinical observations and investigations (e.g., blood pressure checks, ECGs, and urinalysis).
* Competence in arranging appointments, referrals, and follow-ups with patients.
* Experience working in primary care or with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
* Familiarity with clinical systems such as SystmOne.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS): This position requires a DBS check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Working Hours: 25 hours per week, with flexibility required to meet practice needs.
