If so, we have vacancies for Band 6 Senior Staff Nurses on Lane Fox Respiratory Unit.
The Lane Fox Respiratory Unit is the largest weaning and home mechanical ventilation centre in the UK. We provide management and long-term follow-up for patients with chronic respiratory disease such as COPD and neuro-muscular diseases. The Lane Fox Respiratory Unit also offers specialist nurse-led clinics and a home ventilation service for assessing and advising patients with chronic respiratory illness.

Main duties of the job
Our unique, purpose-built 14-bedded unit delivers high-quality specialised respiratory care to complex level 2 and level 3 patients including:
* Tracheostomy management and mechanical ventilation
* Weaning from invasive mechanical ventilation
* Acute and chronic non-invasive ventilation
* High Flow oxygen therapy

We welcome applicants with a willingness to learn, who thrive under pressure and have the ability to adapt and refine their skills according to the demands of the unit. You MUST have a post-registration critical care qualification (ITU / HDU) and significant experience in an ITU / HDU/Respiratory settings.
We can offer you a personalised induction programme with supervision and support from our dedicated practice development team and one-to-one support from the senior nursing team. We have an excellent development programme with protected learning time including support to develop management skills.
Job responsibilities
* Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
* Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
* Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products.
* Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the specialty, interpreting information, and taking appropriate action.
* Ensure that patients receive high-quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
* Provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in monitoring the planning delivery and evaluation of individualised care.
* Accountable for practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct, sustaining and improving knowledge and professional competence.
* Ensure safe and effective care for complex patients requiring advanced clinical skills and carry out specialist nursing procedures.
* Ensure that sensitive patient records are stored appropriately.
* Ensure staff take precautions to minimise the risk of cross-infection in relation to the safe disposal of body fluids.
* Communicate effectively with patients/carers/families regarding disease treatment and management.
* Facilitate a high-quality, cost-effective specialist service through monitoring and audit and other quality initiatives.
* Identify and intervene where circumstances contribute to an unsafe environment for patients and staff.
* Ensure that the learning environment and specialist training is appropriate for both pre and post-registration learners.
* Contribute to the Trust's clinical supervision programme for staff.
* Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in developing a culture that is challenging, stimulating, rewarding and supportive.
* Act as mentor/assessor to unqualified staff and provide education, advice and support to a team of nurses.
* Utilise research findings in the delivery of specialist patient care and disseminate relevant information to staff.
* Provide a leadership role model and demonstrate specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice.
* Maintain accurate records of the clinical service ensuring confidentiality of information.
* Organise own work and manage own caseload and practice, identifying and maintaining supportive networks for self and other staff members.
* Take an active role in risk assessment, supporting implementation of strategies to minimise risk.
* Create an environment that fosters good communication between patient and health care professionals, meeting individual needs.
Person Specification
Professional Registration
* RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
Qualifications
* BSC/1st degree (health-related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
* Mentorship or Teaching Qualification.
* Evidence of specialist course.
* Post-registration qualification in or demonstrate relevant experience and competence.
Experience
* Experience and competence in the management of patients within the specialty.
* Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting.
* Supervision of junior staff.
* Management of Tracheostomies.
* Experience of coordinating a shift.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
* Up-to-date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients.
* Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners.
* An understanding of audit and research-based nursing practice.
* Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information.
* Demonstrate an awareness of clinical governance and risk management.
