Biocompatibility Scientist

Our Biocompatibility team is an integral resource in our New Product Development project teams and supports biological evaluations of S+N medical devices across the entire device lifecycle.
We are looking for a Biocompatibility Scientist to join and lead biocompatibility evaluations within project teams by reviewing scientific data and crafting test strategies. You will act as the lead in this area on multiple projects, managing test programmes and influencing project outcomes.
As an expert in matters relating to biocompatibility, you will be able to advise your partners in matters such as toxicological risk assessments, chemical characterisation, biological safety testing and biocompatibility standards & regulations.
What will you be doing?
1. Supporting the delivery of designated projects by writing biological evaluation plans & reports, reviewing material & analytical data and managing external contract testing programmes.
2. Providing ongoing biocompatibility support for current products including evaluating material changes and updating biocompatibility reports.
3. Analysing analytical chemistry data and conducting toxicological risk assessment.
4. Developing and maintaining an understanding of medical device biocompatibility standards and making recommendations internally on updates to current methods and working practices.
5. Peer review of biocompatibility reports.
6. Representing biocompatibility in audits and interactions with regulatory bodies.
7. Performing all activities in compliance with relevant GMP and Quality Systems and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
What does success look like?
Our successful candidate will be educated in a relevant field such as Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences or Analytical Chemistry. Experience in biocompatibility and/or toxicology are an advantage.
They’ll have work experience in a commercial environment where they have gained knowledge and experience of biocompatibility evaluation and testing. They’ll be confident accurately analysing data and making conclusions regarding the biocompatibility of medical devices.
