The Wessex Regional Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Cancer Service is looking to appoint an enthusiastic staff nurse to take a key role in the running and further development of the service. Based at the Southampton Cancer Centre, Southampton General Hospital (SGH).
A dedicated age appropriate facility for TYA patients (aged 16-24 years), funded by a charitable grant from the Teenage Cancer Trust, was opened at SGH in September 2013. It comprises 6 inpatient beds and 4 day care areas. The Unit serves young adult patients in the Central South Coast Region, Dorset and the Channel Islands. The post holder will be a pivotal member of the TYA multidisciplinary team which provides medical, social, psychological and emotional support to this patient population. The team comprises site specific oncology/haematology/palliative care consultants who have a specialist interest in the care of the TYA patient group, TYA nurse specialists and a lead nurse along with TYA specialist social workers and youth support workers funded by the YLvsC and the Teenage Cancer Trust. In addition, the team comprises specialist physiotherapists/occupational therapies/dietetics and psychologist. TYA nurse specialists are also based within the region providing geographical outreach.

Job responsibilities
The post will offer broad experience in the care of in-patients and out-patients in the management of the full range of malignancies observed in the TYA population including acute leukaemias, lymphomas, sarcomas, germ-cell tumours, brain tumour and others that occur less commonly. In addition the post holder will be involved in the supervised delivery of high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell rescue and a range of clinical trials.
Applicants should be able to deliver SACT administration along with experience in the care of oncology or haematology patients. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn and work within a multidisciplinary team in changing environment, together with adaptability to clinical and service requirements.

* Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
* Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
